Japanese Nintendo Wii gives access to the Japanese VC / Wiiware list,
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Wii Console - Japanese Version (Video Game)
When I bought the Wii from Japan, I intended only to get access to the Japanese Virtual Console and WiiWare games. The CD games are too expensive and most are available here. Having that be said, this is what I will review it on.First powering on the system was a little frustrating because I kept selecting the wrong menu options, so I used My Japanese Coach for Nintendo DS to get by. The black Wii seems to be a little quicker than the white one because it has been out less than a year. All the menus stay the same. The only language is Japanese looking like traditional Kanji instead of the simpler version of the text. So, if you are familiar with the American Wii, or have one available, just turn that one on to see what each item says. For the Shop Channel, you have quite a selection. First, the systems are Famicom, Super Famicom, Nintendo 64, Neo-Geo, Sega Master System, Sega Megadrive (Genesis), MSX (many Konami games), Arcade, but still no Atari games. Many of the games on this list are not available in the US such as Gradius II for NES, Super Mario 2 JPN (outside of Mario All-stars), Custom Robo V2 for N64, and some Mario VS Wario puzzle looking game for SNES. For Rockman 3, it is different from our Megaman 3. Some of the stages are slightly different. A typical gamer may not notice, but a true Megaman fan will see it right off. A lot of the NES games are in English except for the RPG or adventure games. Many of the platformers, shooters, piloting, and some strategy games are all in English. For the SNES games, many are still in English, but the number has been greatly reduced. As the systems advance, the English text reduces a lot, but the games are still fun if you don't care to read the text. Since I am interested in mostly the VC games, here are a few to think about. Nintendo All-Star Dairantou Smash Brothers, Panel de Pon, Super Mario 1, 2, 3, USA, World, Zelda no Densetsu 1, 2, and SNES, Gradius II, Rockman 3, Hoshi no Kirby Super Star, Final Fantasy IV, Fire Emblem 6 (this one has ROY from Super Smash Brothers Melee), Ganbare Goemon 3, and Akumanjo Dracula. I didn't see anything on the Wiiware list different from the American list, other than a few gamble games or card games, but I guess some good ones would be Baku Bomb WiFi 8, Rockman 9, Pocket Monsters Rumble/Brawl/Melee, and the rebirth series that Konami has been putting out like Castlevania, Gradius, and Contra. Someone is saying that this Wii for sale is not actually Japanese. If it's true, I do not know, but this system is only worth $300, and is actually pretty good and fun to play! I actually got mine from another site and am posting my review here. If you can get a Japanese Wii and are a retro-gamer like myself, I'd check it out!
