4.0 out of 5 stars Nice alternative, only slight disadvantages over official controllers
I got the Nyko Frontman for the same reason you're looking at it, most likely - it's cheaper than the official RedOctane guitars. I'm usually wary of third party controllers, as they're usually lacking in quality, but I took a chance with this one and I'm glad I did. It works just as well as the official guitars, though it feels a bit different, as the buttons are more...

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice alternative, only slight disadvantages over official controllers, November 28, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Wii Frontman Wireless Guitar - Yellow (Accessory)
I got the Nyko Frontman for the same reason you're looking at it, most likely - it's cheaper than the official RedOctane guitars. I'm usually wary of third party controllers, as they're usually lacking in quality, but I took a chance with this one and I'm glad I did. It works just as well as the official guitars, though it feels a bit different, as the buttons are more rounded. That's not a bad thing, either. I've found that some people actually prefer it.
One downside I can think of might not even apply to most people, but in my case, I travel with my guitars a lot. With the official guitar, you can remove the neck and break them into two pieces, but you can't do that with this one. I usually carry them around in a duffel bag, so since I can't break this one apart, the only way to get it to fit is to have the neck sticking out of the bag. It wasn't a deal-breaker for me, though. You also can't use the colorful faceplates that RedOctane makes, as their shape is completely different. It comes with a yellow or pink faceplate in addition to the white one, though why you would want to use either of those is beyond me. You're already holding a silly plastic guitar, and you want to give it a pastel faceplate?
Also, I only have Guitar Hero III. I have no idea if this guitar works for Rock Band, so you might want to do some research on that if you want to use it for that game. I'm assuming it works for Guitar Hero: Aerosmith and Guitar Hero World Tour, though, even though I don't have them.
Don't get scared off by the box or manual saying anything about requiring batteries. The only batteries you will need are already in your Wii remote. My guess is that Nyko used the same template for guitars for PS2/PS3/Xbox 360 as well, and those need batteries.

Overall, it's a great guitar and a nice alternative to the official models. Enjoy rocking out!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nyko Wii Frontman works great for me, December 1, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Wii Frontman Wireless Guitar - Yellow (Accessory)
I saw an amazing price on the Nyko Wii Frontman guitar controller and thought for sure something so much cheaper than the original Guitar Hero guitar would be inferior. But at the price (and with the other reviews) I figured it was worth a try. Well I'm happy to report my fears were thus far unfounded. The guitar performs great for me - although I'm not a Guitar Hero master. If you are used to the official guitar you will notice some differences:

1. The neck is not removable, so it is less convenient for those who maybe need to travel or store the guitar in tighter spaces
2. The + and - buttons are on the opposite side of the whammy bar - just cosmetic to me
3. The whammy bar's up/down orientation adjustment is a little stiffer than my original - I think that the stiffness is preferable as it doesn't bump out of alignment as easily
4. Obviously you can see it is a different style - I like having two different guitars than two identical ones
5. The Frontman comes with a replaceable pick guard for two color options. I don't really care about this much, but it gives a little more variety. The "pick" tool to remove the guard is conveniently housed inside the Wii controller bay.

I read in some reviews that this guitar is smaller. That is not true of mine - they are the same size.

I am very satisfied with this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent replacment or additional guitar, December 1, 2008
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Wii Frontman Wireless Guitar - Yellow (Accessory)
The "Frontman" guitars are a decent replacement or additional guitar to use for your Guitar Hero game. The unit itself feels and looks a bit "cheaper" then the regular GH or RB guitars but still work just fine. The buttons feel a bit "spongy" to me, again they work fine but if your used to a GH or RB guitar it might take a little getting used to. They are currently lsited to work with Guitar Hero III and I know from experience they work fine with Guitar Hero Aerosmith. They may not work with Rock Band, check Nyko's website for that. One nice thing is both the white and yellow models come with a changeable pick guard so if you buy two of the same color you can still change ones pick guard and have them look a little different.

For the price these are worth picking up, especially if you have one guitar currently and want a second for two player playing. It also makes a good backup or travel guitar since the price is relatively low.

This Wireless Guitar is great. It's offered at a great price and is comparable to the name brand guitar. Both work well for me, and I would buy another Frontman Wireless Guitar next time, since its a great product and you save a lot of $$$!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Guitar Hero Guitar, January 6, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Wii Frontman Wireless Guitar - Yellow (Accessory)
I was browsing Amazon on "Black Friday" after not having worked in retail for two years now, and I came across this guitar for Guitar Hero. I own Guitar Hero 3, Aerosmith, and World Tour so I thought I would do my friends a favor and pick up this second guitar for the $13 it was selling for. I completed my transaction and the confirmation screen showed another of the same for $7 including shipping. I purchased it and canceled my first order and now have been enjoying this guitar for several weeks. It feels better and the buttons are more rounded than the Aerosmith guitar. Even at the $15 price this is a worthwhile purchase that feels very reliable.

I got this for a great price through Amazon. It works just like my Guitar Hero guitar in every way. It is a little shorter which may be a bonus for you and does not effect game play at all. Nice option of being able to change form black to white face too!

5.0 out of 5 stars now we can battle!, October 24, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Wii Frontman Wireless Guitar - Yellow (Accessory)
My kids LOVE their guitar hero but sadly it is basically a one player game - this allows you to battle each other and added a lot to the fun level. This guitar works every bit as good as the one that came with it only it has an extra face plate so they can change it out. I recommend this to anyone who loves guitar hero and wants a chance to go against someone else (aka do battle)

some of the reviews i read about this said it only works on guitar hero III, that may have been true when it came out (it dosent work on guitar hero II) but it does work on everything after that. ie it does work on gh aerosmith and gh world tour. works fine, ive played several hours with it and my 2 boys (8 and 11) have played a lot with it also, havent noticed any problems whatsoever. i recomend it :)
