I really -wanted- to love these, but . . .,

I bought these with Wii Sports Resort, specifically for the new sword-fighting games, as I expect many will. They do claim right on the packaging, after all, "Works great with Wii Sports Resort."
The problem is, the sword-fighting games (every variant), require you to calibrate the orientation of the remote by pointing it at the center of the screen and hitting 'A' before the game begins. This requires that the remote sensor on the end of the remote be unhindered. The Nerf blade, of course, covers this sensor. It's true, the blade can be removed relatively easily from the 'hilt' portion of the device, which remains around the remote. Still, you have to start the game up without the blade, then pause so you don't get clobbered while you attach the blade, and then get to actually playing the game. Other than that, I'd say the things are well-crafted and I have no issues with the materials or quality. But for a device that really adds nothing but 'look and feel' to the game, the whole process of detaching and re-attaching the blade each time you start a new match pretty much kills the added immersion. I really wanted to love these and was looking forward to lots of sword-swinging fun. Playing detach-and-attach the blade all day sucks out any joy from using them though, and in the end I can only say it's a great disappointment. I can't find any way to justify spending almost half the purchase cost of the game itself on these at all. Thus the low final rating. (Note: Disabling the option for sensor bar assist in the settings seems to have no affect on the sword game calibration sequence that I can find -- it still requires the sensor calibration at the start of each match. If anyone finds a better way to actually use these things with Wii Sports Resort, I'd be most interested and would be inclined to give them a better rating.)

Does not work,

I bought these today thinking they were very cool. The problem is that you need to press the "A" button to start the game and the "A" button doen't work with the sword end attached. By the time you get the sword part back on, the game is over.
Save your money and don't buy this item. I'm returning them tomorrow.

The game itself is awesome, I can play for hours. The Wii Nerf Sports Resort Sword Duel Play are a disappointment. The sword has to be detached to press the A button before the match, then you can reattach it to continue your match. It takes away from the first strike and the game itself. Very disappointed with the sword.

You have to keep detaching and re-attaching the sword because you have to hit the A button in between each match. As we did this I said, "You've got to be kidding me" but the sword covers the sensor. My four year old can't re-attach by himself so the process is a pain. I will be returning this. I don't usually write reviews but I wanted to make sure people don't get suckered in to buying these at Christmas and then losing the receipt.

Neat concept, poor execution. You have to constantly remove and re-attach the nerf sword to the control before each match. My 7 year old was doing fine with this method, but, did not fully "click" in the end one time so the end flew off while playing the duel in Resort Games. hard to believe, but it hit the 46 inch LCD TV near the bottom of the screen from 7 feet and destroyed the TV. So, getting this item was a $1600 mistake. Take my advice and do not do the same. I was always paranoid about getting a remote in the screen so the kids had been coached to always strap it to their wrists which they had done religously. I would have never expected a nerf item to take out my TV, so that part was a big surprise. If it had a pass through of some sort so you did not always have to re-attach, they would have been fine.

I bought this for my son thinking it would really add to the experience of the Wii Sports Resort Sword Play game. Like everyone else, I soon found out that the only experience this product added to the game was HASSLE. It doesn't work with the game. Period.
This product is a waste of money. Don't buy it. Seriously.

These swords were NOT tested before being sold. You have to take the Wii Remote out before each match, by the time you pop them back in you have already lost the match.
The signal can not reach your wii sensor bar. My son was upset!! He wanted these so bad, and used them for 2 minutes before the tears started!! I already sent them back for a refund. Please don't waste your time and money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, it be. The device, as others have explained, has a fatal flaw. Do not buy this without understanding that fact. You need to set the game up and THEN attach the blade at the last second after starting the game with the sword off. How their "engineers" missed this issue is astonishing. No way is this worth $19. I got it at Circuit City for ten and I feel ripped off. Seriously, the product really should carry a disclaimer and ought to be discontinued. False advertising. It's bad.
