4.0 out of 5 stars Great combination of Perfect Shot and official Nintendo blaster, May 12, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Wii Resident Evil Blaster (Accessory)
I recently purchased this blaster because I am a huge fan of the RE series and enjoy the gun-style games on Wii. I have the official Wii blaster made by Nintendo that came with Link's Crossbow training. The only thing that I like about that blaster better than this is the cord management, the RE blaster leaves the cord to the nunchuck hanging off to one side or the other. Other than that, I love this blaster. It has a spring in the trigger (much more accurate than the lack of one in the Nintendo model) and you have the option to take off the back grip and play with this gun in pistol mode. This makes the cord management a non-issue. Now let me compare this to the Nyko Perfect Shot, which I also own. The Perfect Shot has a much larger grip, and the wiimote fitment is a little more snug and secure (not that its loose by any means in the RE gun, but just better in the Perfect Shot). It also allows you to plug in a nunchuck through the passthrough at the bottom of the grip. This is great if you need it, but it leaves the nunchuck loose in your second hand. If I could choose one "blaster" shell out of all 3, I would suggest the RE blaster. It's versatility is excellent because its really a combination of the other two, and it just looks sweet.. Plus, it comes with an Umbrella Corporation thumb grip and skin for your wiimote, a nice touch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Guncon ever!!, February 15, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Wii Resident Evil Blaster (Accessory)
This is by far the best light gun to play Umbrella Chronicles or any other rail shooter. Reloading is super easy with movable back handle, and all of the buttons are accessible. Back "blaster" portion is removable to convert it to a pistol. Comes with a sweet remote skin and analog cover. An absolute must for any Resident Evil fan!! Capcom should rerelease them though, because they're super hard to find!!

Honestly, it works great. The only problem (which is a huge one) is that the "cord management system (which is just a little hole behind where you put in the wiimote)" doesn't do much good; it just makes the excess cord shorter, it doesn't eliminate it.

The pictures you see of the gun seem to have a magical nunchuck with no chord, because my nunchuck has a cord that sticks out of the back and hangs down awkwardly during gameplay.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it!, October 27, 2010

I got this for my birthday in June and it works perfect! A lot of people mention the Wii remote cord hanging and getting in the way...well I just stuffed the whole thing in the back. It doesn't get in the way AND it makes the remote more snug in it's place. My 3 year old has dropped this many times and it's still in tact with no broken pieces. The only issue I have is with the thumb grip ...it kept falling off during the intense moments I was playing. But I just kept it off and all is well.

Despite what some others have said, I haven't had any major problems with this blaster. The skin for the Wii-mote and nun-chuck are very cool. I think it's a great buy if you're a fan of the series. The cord hanging about is a little annoying, but I forgot about it after playing for 5 minutes. If you like anything RE, consider picking this up.

Based on previous reviews of the Wii Resident Evil Blaster as well as other similar products, I went with the RE Blaster. So far I have only used it for HotD: Overkill, and it works flawlessly. It's my only gun, so I have nothing to compare it with, yet I am very happy and satisfied with my purchase. I did try to use it with RE:4, but the game is much better without any gun attachments, so I just use the standard Wii Remote w/nunchuk.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the most comfortable gun for Wii, January 23, 2010

I have tried about half a dozen little plastic guns for the Wii, and this one is definitely the best. Some of the others are downright lousy, but even the good ones had really large handles that become uncomfortable very quickly. This gun has a slim handle with no sharp edges. Don't get me wrong-a couple hours of House of the Dead and your hand is still cramping up, but this gun is as comfortable as possible. The trigger pull is smooth and comfortable, although maybe just a touch long. You can detach the nunchuck for games like Resident Evil Chronicles or leave it on for any game that lets you use the nunchuck buttons as a trigger. This is definitely the most comfortable plastic gun frame I have used.

1.0 out of 5 stars Resident Evil Blaster vs Nyko Perfect Shot, November 5, 2010
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Wii Resident Evil Blaster (Accessory)
So far, I've purchased both the Resident Evil Blaster and the Nyko Perfect Shot, and I can't say I like one more than the other. Both gun attachments have their pros and devastating cons.

Gamers complained about the Nyko Perfect Shot, because it was "front-heavy." Personally, I didn't mind, but if you tend to have somewhat small hands or a weak grip, the RE Blaster feels more balanced in the front and back. This is because there's some plastic material sticking out at the back end of the gun - like a parasaurolophus - to accomodate the nunchuck attachment as an option.

Some folks also complained that the Perfect Shot's handle was too large. So again, if you have hands that run smaller than average, the Blaster's handle is considerably small.

The same people also complained that the trigger on the Perfect Shot was too far away from the handle. The Blaster on the other hand, completely overcompensates with a trigger that is so close to the handle, that you can nearly form a fist, even with your index finger wrapped around the trigger.

The trigger's close proximity to the handle on the Blaster, destroys any sense of realism, because the trigger on a real gun, is pulled with the tip of your index finger. Not so, with the Blaster, unless you want tendonitis in your index finger. If your finger is divided into three segments (tip, middle segment, and the segment closest to the knuckle), you're firing with the segment closest to the knuckle. As you can gather, this makes the gameplay extremely awkward and uncomfortable.

From a mechanical and functional standpoint, the Nyko Perfect Shot easily wins the contest. Unfortunately, the Perfect Shot also has a crippling weakness that negates its gameplay superiority - the undersized Wiimote slot. Because the slot where you insert the Wiimote is so small, it scratches up your controller pretty bad, when you take it in and out. And unlike video demos, you're not sliding the Wiimote in and out like a knife to a knife block. Not by a long shot. You're literally jamming the Wiimote into the slot, and popping and cracking it out, with all your force. Worst of all, there's a connector inside the slot, that will eventually dislodge. I dislodged two Perfect Shots, just after the first insertion. It's absolutely insane to wonder who designed the slot. In fact, the Perfect Shot is not compatible with Nyko's battery pack. This is a gross oversight.

In contrast, the size of the Wiimote slot on the Blaster, is just right. It's spacious enough to insert the Wiimote with ease - and without carving up your controller - and it's snug enough, that it won't fly out during gameplay. And if you're worried it's gonna fall out, there's also a locking lid to snap in your Wiimote, but honestly, it feels like it's gonna break with use, so I just leave the lid opened. On top of that, the Blaster is compatible with Nyko's rechargeable battery pack.

Overall, I find both controllers to be worthless and impractical. While the Nyko Perfect Shot feels great during the game, it's designed to break with every insertion of the Wiimote, and trust me, it's a struggle to get the Wiimote in and out of the slot. Honestly, it would've been better - and cheaper on the part of Nyko - to do away with the connector inside the slot, and simply allow you to attach the nunchuck directly to the Wiimote, like the Blaster does.

And while the Resident Evil Blaster fixes the fitting issues of the Perfect Shot, the notoriously small handle and a trigger that's too close for comfort, ruin the gameplay mechanics.

At this point, I've tried the top two pistol attachments that the Wii had to offer, and suffice it to say, I'm crushed. I can't believe this is the best these companies can do, five years into the Wii's life cycle. And it's a shame Nintendo decided not to design a pistol attachment, but instead, a "Zapper," which requires the use of both hands.

In conclusion, I've decided it's a lot easier playing light gun games like Umbrella Chronicles and House of the Dead Returns, with a nude Wiimote, as you can press the B button with tremendous ease, multiple times, in the same time it takes to pull the trigger once on any light gun. Of course, gun attachments are meant to enhance the gameplay value of these light gun games, but unfortunately, the developers designed the game with the Wiimote's mechanics in mind. The options of a gun attachment on these games, were really an afterthought. Thus, if you're thinking of adding a gun attachment to your Wiimote, expect the game to be far more difficult, because 1) the time it takes to pull the trigger on a light gun generally takes a lot longer than the time it takes the push the B button on a Wiimote, 2) aiming is also more difficult with the gun attachments, and 3) the deficiencies of the Perfect Shot and Blaster, chronicled above.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as great as others, December 26, 2009

The product is very fun and interesting, and the functionality of the blaster is moderately high... There are a few pros and cons...

I purchased a pair of these guns for a large number of arcde-style shooters I have like Umbrella Chronicles, Darkside Chronicles, House of the dead overkill, 2&3, and others....

Pros:
1. the trigger mechanism is very intuitive and makes the system very reliable
2. The way you insert the gun is you lift a little locking lid and just drop the controller in, scrunching up the wire for the nunchuck behind the wii mote and then cloding the lid. Works great, and no room for guesswork.
3. The extras are decent... the "skin" is a sticker... useless and only applies once. But the Silicone analog button that came with it is GREAT. it looks wonderful on bothe the white and black nunchuckas. Takes some time to get on, but keep at it, tis makes it alot easier to use!

Cons:

1. The two controllers I got are slightly different, one has a matte-like silicone finish on the back where the nunchaka goes, and the other is just a gloss black plaztic, like they forgot it or something...
2: the wire management (like others say) is a ilttle tough to deal with, but is easily remidied by stuffing the wire into the compartemtn behind the wiimote and firly closing the lid.
3. When playing games that require you to use buttons on the wiimote (like the A, +, -, or directional pad) you are unable to comfortable or quickly do it (darkside chronicles and umbrella chronicles (the game this is made for ironically enough) are impossible to play using this remote, or any other like it for that matter...)

Overall these controllers are more fun that they are functionaly... still, for 20 bucks you'd think they would have thought about the "A" button...

2.0 out of 5 stars Better Than Nothing, August 28, 2009
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Wii Resident Evil Blaster (Accessory)
The Blaster looks great, but the Wii zapper works alot better. First I had a problem with the cord, when I did get it in, it was in the way, just hanging there. But I really
didn't need it so I removed the cord. The nunchuck holder at the rear of the gun kept coming off, it slides off to easy, so I removed it, I wasn't using the nunchuck anyway. But my biggest problem is the controller will not stay put in the controller compartment at the front of the gun. You raise the small door, set your controller in and close the little door, which if it worked would be great, but the little door on my gun will not lock down. I have forced it closed, then as I pull the trigger over time, the controller will force the little door open, and then either the controller will fall out or the trigger stops working, because the controller is loose. I put tape over the door to keep it closed. All guns may not have this problem, but mine does.
