I was a bit worried about this product when I saw the other reviews. It looked like it was just what I was looking for, but reports of instability made me doubtful. When it arrived, I got a sheet of that non-slip rubbery shelf liner material and cut out two circles for each of the four feet and placed them in the four cavities atop the riser legs. I weigh 265, and I have been using the riser now for two weeks on medium thickness carpet. It is perfectly stable, does not slip at all or make noise. I like to do 30 minutes of free stepping each morning, and this really provides a good aerobic workout. If you want to increase the effectiveness of your workout, give this riser a try.
11/20/09 Update: Now I've had this thing for around five months. I do 4,000 steps each morning, four or five days a week; so up to 20,000 steps a week and the thing still works fine. It does make a little noise when I hula-hoop, but other than that, it is rock solid.

Not stable,

I read the other reviews of this product and wondered if we were talking about the same thing. I did not find the riser stable at all. It felt like it was sliding when you stepped on it and you could hear it move. I use the balance board and riser on carpet, but this is not the problem. The riser does not fit securely on the balance board. I wish it would have been made to fit better.
Having said this, it does make a big difference in the cardio workout you do. I used it in the Advanced Step aerobics and my legs are feeling it. I would like to see Wii come out with an all step aerobics program.

This product does what it says it does - it raises your balance board four inches which brings it to standard aerobic step height. However, it is not sturdy at all; it does not even lock in place. I would have just as much security by placing the balance board on a stack of phone books. This product is a law suit waiting to happen. Please do not waste your money on this product, wait for Wii to come out with something.

To fix the wobbly nature of this riser -- simply cut circles out of grip it drawer and shelf liner and put it inside the cups. It shores it right up!

pros and cons,

I have used this product after reading all the reviews. It is true that the board moves slightly when stepping on and off, however it is a very slight movement. My son who is 130 pounds did not experience any movement. I am 245 pounds. I have a rubber sleeve on mine. This acts as a cushion, so the screeching sound that others have talked about did not occur. Because it folds for storage it is space saving. Over all I felt this was an OK device for the board.
I also tried out the new riser from Everlast. This is a better lift because it feels substantially more stable with all weights. In addition it is 3 inches tall before the Wii board is attached, makinging the over all step 5 1/2 inches. So you get a better/higher step if you are as tall as I am (6 feet). It does have its own troubles. The people who engineered the foot holes made them too deep. This results in the feet not registering the proper weight and movements. I resolved this by putting two poker chips in each of the holes. This gave the proper pressure to the feet and now it works great. I did not create any stability problems. The feet still sit deep enough. So my over all recomendation is that both work well and both are not perfect. Pick the one that you can live with best and start building up that body of yours.

Very unstable - Beware may damage your wii balance board!,

I was very excited about this product -- so excited I preordered it -- and now I wish I had never heard of it. I agree with the other reviewers that talk about the instability of this product. Yes, it does raise the wii up a little, but for people who are used to step classes, this is still pretty low. Worst part is that every time I step on it, my weight causes it to shift and make this sound like nails on a chalkboard, which in addition to being a horrible sound, I can't think it is doing anything good for my wii balance board! Add on top of that, ever since I used this (keep in mind I only used it once), my balance board has not been functioning properly. I use the wii fit game occasionally to weigh my pets after I have weighed myself (a function it is designed for and I have done previously without problem). However, now it doesn't matter how heavy the object is that I am carrying, it only registers the same weight as me alone, which makes me worry that the weight sensors aren't working properly anymore. While I can't say for sure that the risers are to blame, it is suspicious that I only had problem after using the risers -- risers which clearly DO NOT FIT the Wii balance board feet properly.

I was a bit disappointed after receving this as a gift, because it was a bit wobbly. I checked the manufacturer's website and they sent a free set of rubber rings to put in the legs. So it works fine now. But you probably would want to get the free fix.

scary wobbly,

This is a nice concept, but poorly executed. I was looking for a spacer to make my step exercises on the balance board a little more challenging. At first glance "the Riiser" appears solid and well-designed, but there is a weakness. Its scissor-like design doesn't lock into place or to the Balance Board itself, which just rests on it. On a normal floor surface this creates a scary wobbly step which might be ok for the less vigorous step routine (although it makes the side steps downright heart-pumping and not from exhaustion), but I would never attempt it for the longer routine without fearing of breaking my neck in the process or causing serious injury.

If I hadn't pre-ordered it - I don't know if I would buy it again - but unless I wanted to put the balance board on top of a wooden box - there was no alternative when I bought it.
Why I was really disappointed (and called it chinese knockoff) is because even though they made it look like the Wii Fit - they were TOO CHEAP TO INCLUDE THE MAGNETS!!! Therefore - right out of the box it does not fit very well - SOLUTION is (as previous reviewer suggested) to put some 4x4inch cloths between the Riiser and the Balance Board. So if you are a fit freak like me and want balance board to be 4 inches higher for better workout - get it! (Also take a look at Everlast 3" Aerobic Step)

Made my workout only slightly more challenging and while it is not going to fall apart, I found it wobbled just enough to be unsettling and made me worry I was hurting the feet of my balance board. I pre-ordered it for $30. Do not pay the $80 I see it going for now.
