The rifle is fantastic. I read in other reviews people had trouble with the nunchuk cable insertion, the rifle was heavy after a while, and their finger got tired from playing with it.

I have NO idea how someone had trouble inserting the cable. In the box there was a step by step process, illustrated, on putting the controller and nunchuk into the rifle...

The rifle is fantastic. I read in other reviews people had trouble with the nunchuk cable insertion, the rifle was heavy after a while, and their finger got tired from playing with it.

I have NO idea how someone had trouble inserting the cable. In the box there was a step by step process, illustrated, on putting the controller and nunchuk into the rifle. This took a second and was easy. If at first you don't succeed then try try again.

Secondly, I'd never admit to getting tired from holding this rifle. I read a review where someone got tired... I considered the source of this review and bought the rifle anyway. THIS IS THE WII, not Xbox 360. The whole point of the game play for the Wii is to be active and get off your butt. I used this rifle for 3 straight days without tiring once. If you play video games to the point of exertion you might have a problem. LOL

Thirdly, a reviewer said their finger got tired from pulling the trigger. If this happens then I think you've played waaaay too long and you have zero muscle tone. This person must be bedridden.

In conclusion, the rifle is great. It's one drawback that I've found was that the rear sight doesn't align with the front sight. Oh well, just as long as you get the rifle against your shoulder so as the video targeting reticle lines up with the front sight you'll be a sharp shooter without a doubt. I bought the zapper and played link's crossbow game with the rifle and my game improved by 100%. I'm going to by more for my family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth The Money, November 15, 2009

I purchased the Sure Shot last week to play with the COD Modern Warfare Reflex. Besides getting use to the new control setup, (ie. using your right thumb to move the character as apposed to your left thumb) The gun is amazing and built solidly. Probably the most realistic war action you can get in your house. The gun also works fantastic with other arcade style games like Ghost Squad and most any hunting games. That sure saves on going to the bar with the boys to fork 10 bucks into buck hunter.

The only downfall of the gun is that if your not in top shape, myself included, you may find that you can not play games for hours on end, but really who cares? if you have to stop playing because you are tired instead of bored thats a bonus.

The gun overall has a nice feel and the trigger actually is the shooting button unlike others I have used. I have read complaints about having trouble putting the nunchucks in, but I haven't yet had that issue. Very nice to be able to take stock off and the "barrel." Only thing that I am not happy with is the sight. It is lower then the gun sight itself and I catch myself putting the stock under my arm and pointing the barrel up to level the sight.

3.0 out of 5 stars can't line up sights to screen target, January 24, 2010

Bought it to use on Cabela's big game hunter and Call of Duty Modern Warfare. Works as advertised but my huge disappointment is that when you pull it to your shoulder and look down the sights they don't line up with the sight thingy on the screen. I wanted it to feel more realistic (than say, the Zapper) and can't do this since the sight on screen doesn't line up with the sights on the gun. IN COD you can calibrate the 'zapper' but still very difficult to get the sights to line up.

Also, the Z and C buttons are so far back on the stock that it's awkward to use these buttons while sighting--and in both games these buttons are used a lot.

Good idea but needs improvement (for these games).

The reviews I did see indicated the rifle was more designed for rail shooters...?

5.0 out of 5 stars Sureshot Rifle for Wii, May 29, 2009

Very nice product, it helps with most shooting games by keeping the controller and nunchuck in one easy to manage package. The only real gripe is the amount of force to insert the nunchuck into the rifle other than that it is a blast.

5.0 out of 5 stars More accurate aim!, January 7, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Wii SureShot Rifle (Accessory)
I hesitated to buy this because of the price, so I opted for the less expensive pistol. It's OK.. but the accuracy isn't very good. While the pistol works ok with Ghost Squad, it wasn't great with Deer Drive. Just made holding the Wii mote easier. Did nothing as far as aim accuracy. I bought this, and WOW.. what a difference! The sight lines up with the target. It's like the arcade experience! It's so much more fun to play shooter games with this! My accuracy went from 65% to 85%+. Worth every penny! Highly recommend!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sureshot Rifle for Wii - pretty good with some tweaking, January 6, 2011
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars

This review is from: Wii SureShot Rifle (Accessory)
This rifle got 4 stars because I had to tweak it a bit. Do what I did at your own risk. If you are an impatient person and / or not mechanically inclined, you may not want to do any modifications. The first 2 of the 4 things are pretty easy. First, my experience is you have to be about 10+ feet (yes, I used a tape measure)from the TV in order to get the reticle to line up very closely with the sight on the rifle. If you are too close, the reticle will not line up properly. The downside to this is it's harder to see your targets the further back you go. I recommend as big of a TV as you can afford. I played using my friend's 60" flatscreen LG, and it looks and works great. I only have a 32" tube TV at home, but it's OK. As a side note, I actually took the "barrel tube" off of the front of rifle to give it more of the shotgun look. I'm using it for several of Remington's hunting games as a shotgun. Second, even with the instructions, the nunchuck can be difficult to put in and take out. My experience was routing the cord thru the left slot on the inside compartment could be a little tricky. You want to make sure the cord is routed out of the way so the C and Z buttons on the nunchuck engage properly, and also so the nunchuck itself seats properly in the compartment. You will only need the B, A, and cross buttons for some games, so you might not even install the nunchuck sometimes. It does give a better feel with it in there, tho. The next steps get a little more difficult. I had trouble with the B or trigger button sticking in in the depressed position, so I had to put a stronger spring inside to force the trigger to return further forward after a shot is fired. So third, you need to take out all the phillips-head screws in the body (don't lose them!), cut thru the 3 stickers on the bottom of the compartments (these stickers show you where to put the controllers), and pull the 2 halves of the rifle apart. There is a piece of plastic just ahead of the trigger guard. It is about the size of a medium-sized piece of chewing gum and about the same thickness. This piece has a bit of glue on it inside, so it's not going to come out easily most likely. This is a spacer for the 2 halves, most likely so the halves don't cave in when screwed together. Once the 2 halves are apart, you can see the linkage from the trigger up to the B button on the controller. Luckily, I think the designers did a pretty good job on this rifle, from a ruggedness/sturdiness point of view. I just slipped the original spring off the linkage, got a slightly longer and stronger spring, and slipped it on the linkage post, and put it back together. If you don't have a box of springs (I bought mine from Harbor Freight Tools), your local hardware store can most likely match one up for you. The spring needs to be strong enough to return the trigger to the forward position (without sticking) after every trigger pull, yet light enough so you don't wear your finger out trying to pull the trigger, so you may have to experiment a bit. Fourth, I took the ring sight off the front of the barrel while I had the 2 halves apart. It comes out easily. If you prefer the ring sight, then leave it on. I put the 2 halves back together, inserted my controller, and started playing. It works great now, and I don't forsee and problems into the future. Alot of work you say? Of course it was. What's it worth to you, tho? I love my hunting games, so it was worth it for me. I also noticed my scores have increased on every game I've played since my "fix". Yes, I know I shouldn't have to do this with a gun right out of the box, but I wanted it to work better, and I thot I could fix it. I'll probably buy another one and tweak it right out of the box. That way myself and a buddy can play 2-player on these big game shooters. I chose this rifle over the sniper rifle because the C and Z buttons are on the sides of the frame, not on magazine. I read several comments about how the magazine-mounted buttons were awkward and made people get sore hands, cramps, etc. I was playing my shooting games with a Perfect Shot Pistol prior to buying this rifle. I am more stable using the rifle. You can use this rifle for any game that uses the B button for the trigger. With the nunchuck in place, all buttons are accessible on it and the main controller. So, to recap, this would have gotten 5 stars had I not had to modify it to make it work how I thot it should work. Hope this helps anyone who is looking to buy a rifle/shotgun.

Hi Chris,

Thank you so much for the detailed description of your fix. It baffles me to think how you came up with it off the bat. Needless to say, I have taken note of your changes so that we can incorporate them in future product designs. Sorry for the hassle. We hope that you're enjoying your hunting games.

Look us up on Facebook and connect with us there. Would love to stay in touch!

1.0 out of 5 stars A nice idea, poorly executed, December 30, 2010

I do a fair amount of competitive shooting with actual firearms, so I had high hopes that the Sure Shot rifle would add a more realistic feel to Wii shooting games, especially the Call of Duty series.

The fundamental problem with this accessory is the distance between the firing grip on the rifle and the B button (trigger) on the Wiimote. This distance requires a long trigger linkage, which in my opinion is poorly engineered. Either the plastic components have too much friction, or the trigger return spring is not strong enough, but either way, the trigger will not reset after being pressed. This creates a frustrating experience with any game that requires multiple shots in rapid succession. It's enough to sap the fun out of any shooting game after only a few minutes.

In summary, the design of the most fundamental component of this accessory is fatally flawed. As much as I would like a more realistic, shoulder-fired Wii controller for shooting games, I will go back to just using the Wiimote and Nunchuk separately until something better comes along.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect, but I like it, January 27, 2010

I bought this for Call of Duty Modern Warfare Reflex. Have not done any hunting games so can't speak to that. First off, I had no problems installing the controller and nunchuck. There are two small slots on the left interior wall where the nunchuck goes, and as long as you run the wire through those, the lid closes properly. If you don't, it won't and I suspect that is the problem some people have. The construction is solid. For a piece of plastic, it feels surprisingly nice (of course its nowhere near as heavy as a real gun). The stock comes on and off easily and isn't loose when attached (it has a slide-lock on the bottom). The trigger feels smooth enough. The barrel pops in and out easily with what feels like a spring-loaded plug. The buttons push easily. All the buttons and trigger are mechanical. They actually use levers inside to push the various buttons on the controller and nunchuck. My only complaint on the physical aspects is that the C and Z buttons are too far back. They're on the main chassis of the gun, about 3-4 inches forward of the trigger guard, and you use these to aim down the site and crouch/stand up. It would be much easier to use if they were farther forward on the "pump" part of the body, where your hand naturally gravitates to. Also, the barrel of the gun is virtually useless. There is no kind of site at the end of it (the forward site is on the main body) so there is nothing to line up when you aim. This is obviously done because the controller's infrared port is what actually aims and a higher barrel would block it. I don't even use the barrel. But I do use the stock, which gives much more control by resting against your shoulder.

It took a bit to get the hang of using this rifle with COD (I probably went through that simulator where you climb up the ladder and repel down then hit the targets about 5 times before getting a good enough score to proceed). After some initial frustration and cursing, I found that by about mission 3 I was comfortable moving around and shooting. You move your absolute position (north, south, east, west) using the nunchuck, and you rotate right or left by moving the crosshairs to the edge of the screen. Takes a while to get used to. Half way through the game, I'm actually a fairly accurate shot and usually can just pop off a few rounds to get someone and conserve ammo (versus full auto). Don't even bother with the gun sites. They don't line up. You use the dot on the screen, but shooting still feels fairly intuitive (I have Expert Rifleman from the military so know how to shoot for real). I find that even though I have to push the Z button to aim down the sites (zoom in on your target), I am naturally bringing the rifle up to my shoulder when I do it. So the shooting feels fairly realistic. My problem is with moving around and I still fumble around in buildings and around corners, so its not perfect. But that's more the game and not the rifle. Also, my right thumb and palm hurt after playing for more than an hour. You use your right thumb on the nunchuck joystick, but you want to keep your finger on the trigger, so you end up extending your thumb farther that you naturally would on a real rifle, which you normally curl around the curved part between the trigger and stock. I have to stop every now and then to work out a cramp.

After the initial frustration, which I have more of on Wii games in general, I like using this gun and it is fun playing COD with it. Would I prefer a PS2/3 type of controller? Yes. You have much more control and accuracy. That's more a reflection of the Wii and not the rifle (I can go into a long story about how we got Wii for X-Mas instead of PS3, but I won't bore you). Overall, I'm happy with the rifle given the inherent limitations of the Wii in general. But if you don't have a Wii and you're reading this fantasizing about feeling like you're really there in the field and ducking for cover and all that, you will be disappointed. Standard controllers give you much more control over a game, even a FPS. I suspect this is the reason that although the Wii seems to be a perfect platform for a FPS, there really aren't very many of them released. It's not there yet. But if you have a Wii already and want to do COD, get this rifle.

If someone from the company that makes this is reading, a nice feature would be putting the Z button at the tail end of the stock so that it is activated when you bring the stock up to your shoulder. In COD, the Z button aims down the site, and this would be very intuitive. I don't know if its physically possible due to the detachable stock and levers, but worth mentioning because it would be a great feature. Another recommendation would be a truly integrated controller in a gun (versus a piece of plastic you put the controller into), which I would bet people would pay a premium for. It is very awkward to use the A, + or - buttons where the controller sits on the top of the body. A gun that actually is a Wii controller itself could get around this and I and others would pay a premium for that. Haven't seen one on the market.

You will like the fact that the trigger operates with the correct hand. The "C" and "Z" buttons are on the side, so there's no problem finding those, and the control stick is out the back of the pistol grip making for easy in game navigation. Look, this is used primarily for hunting/shooting games and sometimes those are realistic. Don't buy this or any of the hunting games and whine that they are inapropriate for young children. Usually, at the end of a successful hunt, something winds up dead. Don't be stupid.
