How to keep board connectivity,
By
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Wii Tony Hawk: Ride Skateboard Bundle (Video Game)
We bought this for my 7 year old son for Christmas, because he's a huge skateboard fan. In setting the game up today, though, we had the exact same problems as others with the board losing connectivity to the console.
But one posting helped us discover the trick to KEEPING the board connected,... The key to maintaining connectivity is to make sure that the sensor on the dongle is perpendicular to the board. We'd first installed the dongle so that the sensor was parallel to the board, and the board refused to connect. This was because we installed the dongle and kept the front of the console facing us. So, it looked like this: *** *S* *E* *N* *S* *O* *R* *** *** *B* *O* *A* *R* *D* *** But when we turned the Wii console so that the sensor was perpendicular to the board, the reaction time and motion detector sensitivity improved SIGNIFICANTLY. We discovered the key for improved performance is keeping as much of the surface area of the dongle sensor facing the board as possible! That way the signals coming from the board have a much greater likelihood of hitting the dongle sensor. Here's the configuration we're now using with great success: ****************** *SENSOR on DONGLE* ****************** *** *B* *O* *A* *R* *D* *** You can even swing the board around 360 degrees and it will keep good connectivity and motion control. (Btw,...if we hadn't figured this solution out, I'd have rated the game package a "zero" and returned it.) Good luck everybody! (And really unfortunate the Activision folks don't include this in their troubleshooting tips.)

Initially when I first heard that Tony Hawk Ride was being released for Wii, I was really excited to get it. I was counting down the days until it would be released. For some reason, I decided to hold out on a pre-order and see what people had to say about it (because of the price).
The majority of the reviews were very poor, and made me think twice about getting it. Finally, I decided to just take a gamble and purchase it even amidst all of the bad reviews. Surprisingly, I found the game to be very fun. I will agree with the previous posters about the connection issues with the board. It took me a while to connect the board to the connector. Just keep on pressing the power button, holding it down for a couple of seconds. I also found that, if there is an issue with disconnection while playing, just turn the console parallel to you (so you can see the connector) and it should stay connected. Hope others find this game fun as well. It's also a rather fun party game.

This game worked great for exactly one week before we had troubles with it. Now the board looses connection frequently, if it connects at all.
No, it always doesn't register the moves correctly, but if you're not a serious gamer (like myself) it really doesn't make a difference. I think it would be better for the kids. I think Activision has a lot of bugs to fix before the game will work as it should.

Don't Know - Could Not Calibrate,
= Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Wii Tony Hawk: Ride Skateboard Bundle (Video Game)
Spent an hour last night trying to get the board to calibrate. Moved furniture to make sure it had a clear 4ft space around the board. It still would not calibrate. Got mad a Tony Hawk's voice telling me this would be the "easiest thing I'd do all day". Called Activision's help line, it is only open M-F 8-5pm. Tried again this morning - moved the Wii and the sensor and could not get it to work for anything. Maybe I got a bad game or a bad board - but at this point I don't want it.

We bought this game as a Christmas gift for our son. I read some of the other reviews, and expected problems with the set-up. We had some difficulties the first day, but once we got the game up and running, it worked fine.
From our son (who's nine): I love the game. I love the graphics. I like how you are actually the skateboarder. You can do different tricks by yourself and not be holding the controller to do the tricks. It helped that I already knew how to skateboard, and the game isn't too difficult. When my friends, who don't skateboard, tried it, they thought it was impossible. I would highly recommend this game for other boys (and girls) who skateboard. Don't be frustrated if you have problems setting it up. It's work the effort.

Technical Problems NOT Worth It,

This product has several technical problems that make this product not worth it.
1) Unit does not shut off properly and thus eats $6 of batteries each time you play it. 2) The manufacture suggests various unplugging from back of Wii and/or battery removal tasks - not reasonable for a product with a power button that should work - or it should really just time out. 3) See other threads on challenge to calibrate; you get to do it several times so you get good at it after a while. My suggestion is wait for "version 2.0" as this one does not pass the basics of Quality Control or Usability. There is an easy to use one-click link on the manufacturer's web site to return this product for warranty coverage. That should explain their stance. Lastly, the game itself is just average to play, my sports-concentric pre-teen son prefers Wii-Fit.

Its the only thing my 10 year old asked for and it brought him nothing but frustration on Christmas morning. The board WILL NOT calibrate. We've done everything, just as everyone else has, as well as removing wireless phones from our room. The kicker is the help site:[...] forces you to a site where you can purchase Guitar Hero but says nothing about The Ride. Can't wait to ship it back to Amazon! Very disappointing...

When my family saw the Tony Hawk: Ride Skateboard Bundle game for the Wii we thought this is going to be loads of fun. I usually am a big fan of Activision games but this by far is the worst game I have ever wasted money on. The graphics are extremely poor, game play is slow reacting, long load time and extremely difficult to learn the moves. Everyone quickly got bored with the game. The board is solidly constructed and not a cheap piece of plastic. We have not encountered any of the connecting difficulties as some others have mentioned but overall a complete disappointment.
I give it 2 stars since the whole concept is pretty neat but Activision needs to work on offering better player interaction and more realistic game play.

Total scam by the manufacturer. They had to have known of the connectivity issues, but rushed poor product out with bugs for the pre-Christmas sales. Son is heartbroken at Christmas. I'm mad.
