4.0 out of 5 stars Clever, Slick, And Sexy, November 21, 2008
By
This review is from: Wikked-A Novel (Paperback)
Niqi Brown seems to have it all - she's the Executive Director at a lucrative manufacturing firm, she's surrounded by a great support system of close family and friends, and, last but not least, she's engaged to one of the wealthiest and most handsome brothas around: Mr. Chancelor Barnes IV. Veritably on top of the world, few would imagine that someone in her privileged position would ever have anything to worry about...truth be told, though, even paradise has its trouble spots...

As it turns out, Niqi and Chance's relationship has been steadily eroding over the years, devolving to the point where they can barely see eye-to-eye on any issue. They spend less time together, they argue more frequently, and, quite frankly, they make each other miserable. So, it comes as no surprise that Niqi's suspicions are confirmed when she confronts Chance about his secret dealings with none other than Tiffany Jones, a bitter rival from her past who has re-emerged on the scene with Niqi square in her sights. Amid the drama and chaos that ensue, Niqi eventually finds comfort in the arms of the smooth and sexy Denim Alexander, an intriguing character who just so happens to be the best lover and partner she's ever had.

However, all that glitters is not gold, and Niqi soon finds herself caught up in the middle of a sinister plot involving various levels of treachery, deceit, and backstabbing, thrusting her into survival mode with none other than her very own life at stake.

A clever and compelling tale, Wikked is sure to entertain. In her standout debut effort, lmblakely has compiled an intriguing cast of characters, each of which has his/her own unique backstory, which adds considerable flavor to the well-seasoned overall storyline. Furthermore, rather than in linear, predictable fashion, Wikked slickly wends its way from each new plot twist to the next, keeping the reader on his/her toes as the convoluted plotline unfolds.

A suspenseful account of the dark side - and ultimate redemption of - our common human nature, Wikked is a literary treat that shouldn't be missed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow!!!, January 25, 2009
This review is from: Wikked-A Novel (Paperback)
Wikked is the magnificent debut novel from lmblakely. This book will truly have you on the edge of your seat anticipating the characters next move.

Wikked tells the story of Niqi a lady who basically has it all from her great job to her personal life with handsome beau on her side Chancellor and you would believe that the duo is destined for the happily ever after like your favorite romance novel.

Things are going good (or so they seem)until a woman from the past by the name of Tiffany whose main purpose is to wreck havoc and she does just that is this love triangle. Things get really intense in this novel and Niqi feels as if she is loosing everything and turns to the handsome Denim and that just adds fuel to this already lit flame.

Wikked is packed with deceit and action that will have you as the reader with your mouth open in awe over what is taking place throughout these pages.

lmblakely has made a phenomenal debut and Wikked is definitely a must read for those looking for a sexy, suspenseful read. This book will not disappoint and you definitely will be eagerly awaiting the sequel.

Although this is a debut the author is letting it be known through her creative words that she is here on the literary scene and not going anywhere.

Kudos to lmblakely for a job well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Wikked" indeed, December 13, 2010
By
This review is from: Wikked (Paperback)
This is a page turner that keeps you intrigued from page one to the last page. Took me only a day and half to read it. I found that whenever I wasn't reading I was wondering what was next. Niqi and Chance have a stable type of relationship but Niqi finds that one of a kind love with Denim. Tiffany is that chic that everybody loves to hate, but I appreciate her avidity for getting what she wants by any means necessary. The unexpected twist in the ends makes you want more of the "Wikked" quad (Niqi,Chance,Denim and Tiffany). Two thumbs up LMBlakely, I look forward to your future masterpieces.

4.0 out of 5 stars (Wikked) Indeed, February 6, 2010

This review is from: Wikked-A Novel (Paperback)
Imblakely did a great job on the storyline from a wealthy relationship, to conflicts. This storyline tells you how money, drama, and jealousy cannot be counted for true love and if you not careful you will loose out. You can learn from this if you truly in a relationships that seems not to have communication, attention, affections but greed for money and trust in the wrong people you can loose that one person you truly love and have given you her or his all and will leave when you least expected. Wikked about college friends that grow up and a man that trusted a college female friend not knowing that this friend is causing conflicts in his relationship behind his back because of the love she have for him in her past and present, not only did he loose the love of his life but there is a twist to this story that you would not believe. What a great story to read. I gave it 4 stars because I found the editing of this book has some misspells words and typos but you can still make out what the wording are beside that it is worth the read.

Imblakely keep up the good work girl I waiting on your next novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars You reap what you sow, don't be wikked, February 15, 2009
This review is from: Wikked-A Novel (Paperback)
In this novel, we meet Niqi Brown a young got it going on woman. She has it all or so one thinks. She is an executive director at Crucial Flash Inc. she has a Billionaire Fiancé Chancelor Barnes IV aka Chance. They have been a powerhouse couple for forever it seems. They are each other's first everything. Chance is next in line of his father company. Chance is everything a woman can want handsome, wealthy and on top of his business game, He seems to think that keeping Niqi lace in the finest is enough for her to stay with him. Niqi on the other hand just wants his love. With Chance's father, being sick Chance has to step up to the plate and is traveling a lot keeping Niqi's bed cold at night. When Niqi goes out to a party with her younger sister Shayla she has a chance meeting with the valet parking attending and is instantly attracted to him although nothing comes of this meeting. Then they meet again and we then learned his name is Denim he asks for her number and they build a friendship that later turns in to love affair. Thus begins the love triangle.

Now you add the supporting cast Tiffany a wealthy woman from "old money" who at one point was friends with Niqi and her collage roommate, whom is now her archenemy. Tiffany is in love with Chance and believes she is the perfect woman for him and will stop at nothing to get Niqi out of his life. Tommie Niqi's gay and hilarious personal assistant. Shayla Niqi's baby sister. Elaine Niqi's older sister. With those involved, this makes for a great read. We learn this world is smaller then we think, when secrets are revealed and lives are change. We also learn keep your friends close and your enemies closer.

LM Blakely has come strong in her debut novel. This novel had twist and turns that made this an enjoyable read. Some of the things that came out of these characters mouth had me cracking up. While there were a few editing issues and time line issues this novel still comes together. I was only disappointed in the outcome of Shayla there was no closure there. I loved the ending of this book as the words we reap what we sow become evident!!! I look forward to reading more from this new author as she a vivid imagination and I can only imagine what she dreams up next.

3.0 out of 5 stars Love or comfort?, February 3, 2009

Her lack of fulfillment in their relationship leads to her having an affair. To make matters worse her ex-friend, Tiffany Jones, will stop at nothing to replace Niqi in Chancelor's heart. Niqi is caught between her newfound love and her fiancé. Which will she choose?

This book has a wonderful story line that kept me intertwined in the plot. I also enjoyed the fact that each character was well described which allowed me to get to know each one intimately.

There are a few things that could be taken care of that would increase the rating of this book in my opinion. One issue for me was that the book could use additional editing. This took away from the story as some of the grammar was sometimes missing. Another concern would be that it was sometimes hard to follow the conversations as some indicators were not present causing confusion as to who was speaking. At times I had to back track a few pages to see who had initiated the conversation. There were other times when it seemed as though there was a sub-story going on that wasn't fully presented for example when Shay left for a couple of days, where did she go? What did she do?

In light of those technical aspects overall Wikked was a good read. I look forward to seeing the author continue to grow in future literary works.

3.0 out of 5 stars (3.5 Stars) You better treat that woman right..., February 1, 2009
This review is from: Wikked-A Novel (Paperback)
Niqui Brown has a thriving career and a wealthy fiancé that hasn't been giving her the attention she needs. Chancellor Barnes IV is so consumed with his billionaire status, his quest for more money, as well as the approval of his father that he takes Niqui and her desires and requests for granted. After a spontaneous night of partying with baby sis Shayla, Niqui meets this lusciously divine creation named Denim who proves to be more than a mild distraction.

Niqui and Chance have been a couple since college, and in their past is an ex-best friend named Tiffany that has conveniently appeared back on the scene. With twinkling eyes and scheming theatrics, Tiffany has more than business on her mind. Her ideal merger would be her ability to steal Chance's heart from Tiffany. Naïve and unknowing, Chance and Niqui are both pawns in Tiffany's game of treachery. Danger nips at Niqui's heels, yet her scandalous trysts with Denim has her too enraptured to notice this factor or the enemy that is in her camp.

lmblakely has penned a credible debut novel that is to be commended. Upon reading the first chapters, I found myself struggling with this read, but after delving further into the novel, the pace picked up and the ending was memorable. Wikked is indeed a worthy read, but the author needs better formation, because the rambling dialogue proved to be distracting. lmblakely's creative skills are invigorating. Despite the editing and disorganization, I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. lmblakely enchants you with tales of love, complacency, misguided allegiances, a touch of mystery, scandal, and even danger.
