This is truly a marvellous musical experience. I have only known about Harry for a short time (the album Wise and Otherwise) and he has become almost a favourite friend. This collection of his material recorded live in Australia is a real treat and also a glimpse at the humour and worldly wisdom of the man behind the music.
His lap slide guitar work is impeccable - I fired off a copy of this dvd to my musician friends as soon as I discovered it - but when he takes out the astonishing instrument called a "Mohan Veena" the spell is sublime. The years he lived in India have given him the ability to straddle blues, raga and folk forms and, without wishing to draw too close a parallel, he sometimes reminds me of John Martyn. This is superb stuff, whether you are a musician or just a music fan with impeccable good taste, you will love this collection. Thank you Harry! |
