3.0 out of 5 stars An average game, at best
Being a fan of the first Wild ARMs, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the sequel. Sadly, though, it is not a true sequel, as I and many others had hoped, but it is a good game all in all. The graphics are great, the story is..ok, I guess, if you can figure out what's going on half the time, but the translation is horrible. A good game, but it fell short of my...

Its battle system is easy to catch on to just like any other RPG such as Final Fantasy 8 or the first WILD ARMS game. WILD ARMS 2 also has a great story line to compete with all the other well known RPG's out these days. And thats my review of WILD ARMS 2.

Wild Arms 2: 2nd Ignition is one of my favorite game after the Final Fantasy series. I've played half of the game ( japanese version ) and from what I saw everything look great, although I don't understand the language but I can tell you that WA2:2I has a great storyline and they also feature lots of new additions, Like you can name all the characters that are involved in this game, that's crazy with over 20 characters and you get to name them one by one. This RPG also improves a lot from the first Wild Arms. Everything is in 3D now except for the characters. This is also one of the game that you have to twist your brain to solve the puzzle aside from the Alundra series. By far this is the most beautiful RPG I've played after final Fantasy series and Chrono Trigger. I recommend this game to all those hardcore RPG gamer & get ready to solve all those great puzzles.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good game, with a few flaws, May 31, 2000

Wild Arms 2, for the most part, is a good game. Anyone who has played the original Wild Arms will note serveral differences, but some of the differences make this a rather frustrating game.

The game starts off the same way as the original one - three seperate people with seperate quests. Atfer going through the intro, there isn't any indication that anything is wrong. <Rudy in WA frees a monster that causes an earthquake; nothing of that sort happening here> Lilka's choice of weapon is a little odd <an umbrella?> and Ashley and Brad both use ARMS. OK, but I prefer the combo of Rudy <ARM user> Cecelia <crest sorceress> and Jack <swordsman> from WA. Another problem is that you have to wait to use the ARMS and magic until you reach a certain force point. Although this eliminates MP, it gets really annoying having to wait to cast Ice on a fire creature when the same thing blasts me with a fire attack. Same problem with the ARMS - have to wait until the FP is high enough. This creates problems when you get into a tough battle and have to wait a few turns to use the big guns - and the critter hits you with confusion, sleep, et al while waiting.

The idea of personal skills is great - get immune to all kinds of stuff, and power up your character at the same time.

The force skills attained by the characters are OK, but some of them are a waste. Ashley's Access is a powerful force, but you have to be at condition green to use it, and I'm usually too busy pounding away with the ARMS to really use it. Tim's FP shift is another more or less useless force skill.

Searching for items it OK, but searching for cities and dungeons seems to be more annoying than anything else.

There aren't as many magic spells for Lilka in WA 2 that there is for Celilia in the Orginial WA. <no escape spell? > The powered up versions of the simple magic in WA 2 aren't really worth the effort to find them <stronger attacks against an indiviual? Thanks, but I perfer attacks against a group>

The graphics in WA 2 are better than the orginal one, but I don't worry about graphics too much, preferring gameplay and fun over graphics.

Don't get me wrong - this is a good game overall <hard not to like these guys, espically Ashley, who seems to be going through an identity crisis.> There are a lot of little things that make this a good, as opposed to great, game. I do recommend it, but rent it first! =)

As a fan of the original game I couldn't believe it when I found a copy of this at my local importer. Feeling proud that I had secured a copy of this game I returned home and began to play. At first the game seemed all to similar to the previous version. The menu system in battle and on the world map and gaming fields were pretty indifferent. But this isn't a fault, the game was liked because of the simple and easy to follow menu. What I did notice this time around was the way the graphics in-game had been improved. Instead of being very blocky and ugly they were smooth and curved. The characters as usual in Rpg's had changed and the game environment had moved on from the last version. The magic rules have changed as well. Instead of needing Magic Points to cast spells, this time you need so many force points. While they don't sound that different here in battle you notice the difference immediately. You see the force points don't decrease unless you use a characters force skill, meaning that in theory battles are very simple because you'll never be able to stop using magic. But when you need to start using force skills the points soon begin to deplete and unless care is taken with the points you are granted the battle is soon turned against you.

However there are still some problems that have been in existence since the last game. One of the major ones is the way that if you encounter a new enemy for the first few times, you will find that it is almost impossible to run away until you take your three controllable characters up levels. Also the map system seems needlessly complicated, this time whenever you need to visit a new town or ruin you will have to find it by using a tiny radar this means that you can end up spending ages going around in circles as you try to discover which way to go. This arouses the fear that many gamers will think that it is pointless continuing and boycott the game. This would be shame as the game itself is very good and provided you stick with it and persevere about the faults you will find decent enjoyment here.

Wonderful graphics, A few puzzles, some interesting battle methods and quite importantly the ability to have the computer auto-fight against those annoyingly weak but ever present 1st level monsters that show up in any game to annoy an umpteenth level super power.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wild Arms 2, January 3, 2002

I've heard many things about the first game so I doubted the purchase of the second one. But I did, and boy, I wasn't sorry for it. At first I was because I had just finished Final Fantasy 8! So this isn't really big for people that are just in it for graphics. As I played the game more in depth I really started to enjoy it. The games has many sub plots and such but it all ends up in the same dirrection much like Final Fantasy. The story line revolves around 3 main characters. Ashley, the equivalent of Cloud but not so much macho bull crap, Lilka, who is the equivalent to Vivi from FF9 (Go Mage ^_^), and Brad, a former war hero much like Sephiroth without all the creepy mako stuff.
The more I played into the game the more I appreciated the way that the creators mapped things out. Though the system of travel wasn't greatly appreciated. On foot though was a new experience. Out in the world you could battle much like final Fantasy but this had an added twist. When you might enter a battle a small exclamation point formed. Occasionally you can resist battles completely, which is a major plus considering eventually you get tired of fighting. This game is a major bonus to any serious RPers looking for a good thick juicy plot line splashed with a few bits of comedy and the ever present rejected love lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Game, November 12, 2000
This review is from: Wild Arms 2 (Video Game)
I bought this game because I really liked Wild Arms 1 and had figured that sony would keep a good thing going. I'm not disapointed. You can set the difficulty in this game very early on. If you use skill points for HP recovery skills you can go the entire game without using an inn once. If you want it to be harder, you can not invest in any skills and keep it challenging. Even though dungeons are have typicly easy random battles, the puzzles can be very confusing. I spent over an hour in one room because I couldn't figure out a password that was just to the left of my character. Although the story rotates around Ashley, each character builds up depth. I spent tons of time going back to towns hoping for more information about characters. Each character also has their own idividual talents. For example, without Tim, you can't use a single guardian. I could go on and on, but I'd rather you just bought this game and decided for yourself.

Wild Arms 1 was one of my favorite games ever, its what got me interested in buying a playstation instead of a 64, (and boy am I glad I did that) This game is just as good as its predecessor. For those of you who played part 1, there will be some items that will bring back memories, dream wand, toy hammer, heal berry, and many others. There are also arms, but what I didn't like is that there is no fast-draw techniques. My favorite part of the game is the exploration. Many people complain about it but I love it. You walk around and someone gives you directions on which way to go, then you hit square and a little radar comes up, and when the radar hits the town, it appears(you can't see the towns until it radars) This makes exploring more fun. Really the only complaint I had, was its too easy, I can kill every normal enemy in one hit with the guys, then I can just use non-stop magic with the girl. I highly recommend this game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not as breathtaking as the original, but i still love it!, October 7, 2002

I bought this game the day it was released, which was a very long time ago. I am not sure why I am reviewing this game now, but it might have something to do with the fact that I am playing it again, and am almost done with it.

Pros: Putting this as simple as possible, this game is by far one of the most "interesting" rpg's I have ever played...right behind Vagrant Story. The cinematic videos in this game are wonderful, and are fun to watch. There are six characters to choose from and play with throught the game, instead of just three from the original. On top of that, you get to play with one of the guardians, the gardian of desire, in one part of the game. In part one, there was a story about the blade of disaster, and the legendary sword maggess, and in this game, you get to actually use her for a short period. This game has alot of history and story in it. The game time to finish, is around 35 to 40 hours, if you rush through it. You will generally finish at about level 47 with your main character. If you want to finish the game, beating everything and leveling up completely, you will be at 99 hours plus, and will take you such a long time, that you probably will not want to finish it that way. This gives alot of diversity to the gamers...it just depends on what type of gamer you are. The new battle system dealing with Fighting Points(FP), is unique, and never been tried before in any game. And, all the characters specialize in such unique techiniques, it will be hard to choose who your main party of three will be.

Cons: The graphics dealing with the world have been lessened from the original. The music is not as breathtaking as the original, but still good. And, the puzzles are not nearly as hard as the first game. In the original Wild Arms, there was a place called, De Le Metalica, and within this place, the puzzles were so hard, you wanted to quit before finishing it. In this game, there are a few hard puzzles, and a couple impossible ones, but the only way to get to them, is to go out of your way, and spend time working on things that are not required to beat the game. To find hidden bosses..etc.

Overall, this game is wonderful. I am about 10 hours away from beating this game with everything done. I am at level 97 and all my characters are incredibly high in power. When I finish this task, I am open to any questions about the game, anyone has. I have found many things that the strategy guides don't have. (The only reason I am using one...is because I have already beat this game about 15 times) I won't help you unless you are really stuck. :) ENJOY!!!
