Awesome,
This review is from: Wild Bill's 12 Station Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder
This feeder works great! Squirrels do a nice backflip off when they get zapped. They don't get on again. So far it has also kept the opossums and raccoons off as well.
I tried one of those lithium batteries in it and it did not work well. I'd stick with alkaline. I haven't had to replace them too often. About every 4-6 months I put in a new one just to be on the safe side. This model is very large. I love being able to dump in this much sunflower seed and then not have to fill the feeder for a few weeks. I have it mounted on a pole and it works great there. The bottom tray is just big enough for cardinals and sometimes a mourning dove to land. Smaller perching birds have no problem on it. Just remember to flip the switch to off before you try to fill it ;) It will give you a nice strong zap that you can feel from your finger to your shoulder. I've had this now for about 4 years and it's weathered quite well being outside year round. If it stopped working tomorrow I would buy another one. It saves me a ton in the seed I used to waste on those squirrels. It saves me the frustration of finding my feeders ravaged by raccoons who used to leave them strewn across the yard. I love this feeder.

I plunked down the cash for this expensive feeder after becoming so dispirited with the predations of squirrels that looking out the window at our visiting wildlife filled me with frustrated rage rather than happiness. Well, ol' Wild Bill came through. This feeder has changed everything for the backyard, and the squirrels now have to be content with the millet that our many visiting avian friends don't want, since they can enjoy a fine variety of seed from the feeder's three separate hoppers. Small enough perches for chickadees and winter wrens, big enough perches for a red-bellied woodpecker, and a nice lower tray that cardinals enjoy resting on after a snack. It is a great solution to the age-old problem of squirrels. And the squirrels no longer try to hop on the feeder, dimly aware in the deep recesses of their brain that something unpleasant lies ahead if they try to climb on. It's actually quite interesting; their compulsion drives them to the feeder, and they hover around it for a moment or two, as two powerful instincts conflict. In the end, the feeder wins, and they run off to eat somewhere else. I can't recommend this feeder highly enough. Well played, Wild Bill.

No harm to any animals but it DOES send the squirrels on their way! A bit pricey but when you figure in the cost of seed over it's life well worth the cost! Uses 9 volt battery that should be changed out no less the once a month!

I've been buying these for years. They usually last 2-3 years and then need replacement. The "newest" one came two weeks ago. It has a small note saying the electronics inside are "improved". However, even with new batteries, squirrels climb all over it and play on it and have already begun to eat it apart.

These feeders are great. They do keep the squires off. It is entertaining watching them. Unfortunately the electronics are not great. This is my third one in about 6 years. The electronics eventually fail and it becomes just another bird feeder.

Bird Feeder, Not Squirrel Feeder,

This is the second one of these I have owned. The first quit working after ten years in the outside. These feeders will keep the squirrels at bay. The shock does not hurt them but they avoid the feeder. Replace the battery regularly and enjoy the birds.

Holds ALOT but has design flaw that traps birds,

I was looking for a feeder that would keep squirrels and raccoons away. Saw this one had a battery and gave a mild "shock" so I figured I'd try it. It holds almost 20 pounds and that's perfect because we have it at a weekend cabin and I only have to fill it once a week. Problem is the design of the plastic that is right under the dome. For some reason, it was designed with a scalloped edge that allows small birds to get into the feeder right beneath the dome. Once in, they can't get out. One weekend I found a dead finch in the feeder. This past weekend there was another finch still alive. Then I noticed a pigeon walking all over the metal dome on the top. So much for the "shock". I'll use wide tape and some screen material to cover the openings under the dome and that should fix the problem. Other than that, I like the feeder because it holds so much seed. It's heavy but I have it on a pulley system which makes it easier to lower and raise.
July 24th..Returned to the feeder after a week and found another live finch inside. This time the finch entered the feeder through the individual station. Once the feed drops below a certain point, the birds can get in but can't figure out how to get out. So my only solution is to take the feeder to my home where I can observe it all week. The only advantage I can see to this feeder is the amount of seed it holds. You definitely can't fill it and forget about it for a week. You have to hang it at your permanent residence in order to monitor, not a part time home. That's a big flaw.

I have gone through 2 of these bird feeders already. The first one cost $105.00 from your site, the second was around $140.00, and now you want close to $175.00. This is getting ridiculous! You carry and sell extra parts, like the mounting poles and the plastic feeder covers and pegs. Why is it that you do not have a supplier for the inexpensive easy to replace transformer? There are a lot of reviews on Amazon.com complaining about the durability of this transformer, which I can confirm, having gone through two of them, and now the third one is not working. I understand that the outdoor elements are problems, but my transformer, when tested with a multimeter, shows a complete circuit when the ON button is pushed, but there is no voltage output even with a new and tested 9 volt battery. The whole feeder is otherwise in good shape, but your tech support says that you have no idea where I can get a transformer! Shame on you! This is a simple piece of electronic equipment that should cost $5.00. You claim that this feeder is "Made in the USA". If so, then why do you not know the supplier/manufacturer of the transformer? I know that you know who makes this transformer. Please let the public know so that we can keep our feeders running longer than the year or two that they do work properly. I will also post this on Amazon.com, as they have a wider audience and sell this feeder for a lot less money. You do not stay in business by treating your customers so unfairly. Please respond asap, so that I can find a transformer that is at least similar. Do you know the output voltage of the transformer you sell? This is a must needed specification, which should be included in your data information. Please advise where I may purchase this transformer.Sincerely, Hendrick Kipp Fort Myers, FLWild Bill's 12 Station Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder |
