A Must for the applique library,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wild Birds: Designs for Appliqu & Quilting (Paperback)
Carol Armstrong does it again with her second book. The patterns and examples are stunning. Carol has a knack for designing applique that is visually complex and yet, can be accomplished with basic hand applique skills. These are absolutely the best bird designs out there for applique. These designs are not intended for the "heat-n-bond" quilter, but for the beauty of hand applique. This book inspires and is sure to be a classic for the bookshelf.

A "must" for the needlecraft library.,

A highly recommended pick for those involved in quilting and home decoration projects, Carol Armstrong's Wild Birds contains over twenty full-size patterns and directions for 8 projects, providing beautiful bird images which range from titmouse and hummingbird to orioles and swallows. The attention to birding detail provides more depth and ideas than most.

This book is not for beginners. The author assumes you have experience in hand applique, hand embroidery, and quilting. She gives diagrams of the birds with numbered parts to tell the sewing order. But the diagram is of the whole bird not the individual pieces. A moderately experienced stitcher will have no problem making patterns of each piece, but someone with little or no experience might find it a challenge. She also tells the reader to applique the pieces using the needle-turn method while only touching on how to perform the technique (which, as anyone knows that does this, requires lots of practice!)The patterns are beautiful, and the projects are not complicated, but there are no diagrams detailing the process. I have been sewing, quilting, and embroidering for many years, but I still appreciate a diagram to go along with the written instructions. I am still glad I bought the book, but also glad I bought the Kindle edition. (it's cheaper) Once again, If you are experienced with applique, hand embroidery, and quilting, and want to make pretty birds, get this book. If you are a beginner, keep looking.

The book is exactly what I was looking for. It has very bird colorings and detail I want to put into the quilt I'm going to make for my daughter.
