3.0 out of 5 stars And the Wild Birds Sing, October 30, 2002
By A Customer
I really enjoyed this book and am now on the rampage of collecting the second and third books of the trilogy...At first I was not sure if I liked the author's style of writing...a bit unusual...instead of seeing the story through one or two characters you delve into the minds of several key players in the story. The story revolves around early settlements of Australia with the elite british, poor irish, aborigines, and native born australians. There are a few typos and missing "s" that can be annoying but the book was addicting...you wanted to keep reading to find out how and if Raunie and Brick finally get together. Anticipation, frustration, hope, disappointment, surprise...the book generates a rollercoaster of emotions as you read it and it takes you through the lives of so many people important to the story. I did have trouble with some of the irish slang used in parts of the the book and had to reread phrases to understand what was being said but that is what helps give the book character...I was so frustrated at the end of the book I threw it across the room...you are left hanging and forced to get the second book in the series in order to see what happens. I enjoyed the book enough to go in search of the second book in the series.
