4.0 out of 5 stars There is a mix-up here.
"Wild Blue Yonder" and "The Wild Blue Yonder" are two entirely different things. The former is from the 50's and the later is a documentary. Please correct the descriptions.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not the Real Deal, August 15, 2007

(REAL NAME)
Thanks, Rick, for the warning. I bought this item from Amazon five years ago only to discover it was not the classic Republic Studio propaganda film about the development of the B-29 in WWII, with Forrest Tucker and Wendell Cory in a love triangle, and Phil Harris of Jack Benny fame providing musical and comedy relief. I informed Amazon of this oversight, and they said they would fix it. Guess they got too busy...

3.0 out of 5 stars If You Want the Wendell Corey-Vera Ralston film...., May 4, 2010
By
This review is from: The Wild Blue Yonder - The United States Air Force Story [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I notice most of the reviews of this USAF documentary (which is now correctly described by amazon.com) lament the fact that it is NOT the similarly titled film from Republic studios about the development of the B-29 bomber and starring Wendell Corey and Vera Ralston. For those who either already have a codefree DVD player or are willing to go to the trouble of looking up the code (available on several websites) to convert their Region 1 (US) DVD player to a codefree player, I wanted to mention that the Wendell Corey film IS available on a Region 2 (Europe) DVD from amazon.de. Please note that unless you convert your Region 1 (US) DVD player to a codefree player by entering its code into the machine, Region 2 DVDs are not playable on Region 1 DVD players. However, if you really must have this film on DVD and are willing to ignore annoyances such as the goofy German title (Hoellenreiter der Nacht, for heaven's sake--"Hellriders of the Night"), the garish cover art, and the ridiculously high German postage fees (I would recommend buying several items at once if at all possible to lower the unit cost), the film IS available, with both English and German language soundtracks, from amazon.de. One possible bonus is that the resolution of European DVDs is better than US DVDs, so the picture might be marginally sharper than any subsequent US release. If dealing with a DVD whose liner notes are in German is just too much for you (if you don't read German this can be pretty annoying) or the German postage is too high (it really is pretty ridiculous), you might wait and see if the film is also eventually released in the UK (check amazon.co.uk occasionally). The advantage to that would be that the title and cover art would be in English and that the UK postage fees are fairly reasonable. You would still absolutely need to have a codefree DVD player, or have converted your US DVD player to an all-region DVD player, for any UK DVD to be playable. For the truly diehard fan of this film, however, it is available on a Region 2 DVD (Europe) with an English language soundtrack (as well as a German one) if you're willing to go through a few hoops to get it. Just thought I'd mention it because so many of the reviewers were disappointed that they could not find the Wendell Corey-Vera Ralston film on DVD or VHS. Or you could just wait for a US release, although there are no guarantees (El Cid, for example was available on DVD in Europe nearly FIVE YEARS before it was ever released on DVD in the US. Hope this helps!

1.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had read the reviews!!!, March 24, 2009
This review is from: The Wild Blue Yonder - The United States Air Force Story [VHS] (VHS Tape)
My uncle wanted the movie with Phil Harris. Since this description clearly states that Phil Harris is in the movie, we ordered it! Amazon needs to correct this before anyone else gets ripped off!

1.0 out of 5 stars Another Rip-Off, April 14, 2008
This review is from: The Wild Blue Yonder - The United States Air Force Story [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Amazon and "The Cotton Group" also misled me into paying for the wrong product. I received the Air Force documentary instead of the film advertised by Amazon as starring Wendell Corey and Vera Ralston.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wild Blue Yonder, August 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Beware. We bought this movie believing that it was the 1951 VHS tape of the same title "Wild Blue Yonder" starring Wendell Corey and Forest Tucker which it painfully was NOT. Amazon should refund or give all deluded customers a refund OR full equal credit for this error.
