About the Author

John MacKinnon has been working for conservation in China for many years, originally as Senior Conservation Advisor to the World Wide Fund for Nature and now as Director of the Asian Bureau of Conservation. The principal author of the Save the Giant Panda Management Plan, he has also undertaken a major review of China's biodiversity and established a program to conserve the rain forests of southwestern Yunnan. Nigel Hicks is a trained biologist who now specializes in wildlife and environmental photography. His work is regularly published in a wide range of international publications and has formed the basis of many illustrated books on East Asia.
