3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed it!
I really enjoyed this book but I've liked all her others too Very entertaining and not overpriced like some popular authors. The only thing I wasn't impressed with was the relationship with Jesse. It seemed way too easy and an obvious dead end. Not to mention sleazy of Pepper

The Pepper Martin series has been my go to series for a long while now. When a new Pepper Martin book is released I am promised a fun mystery, at least a few good laughs, and a visit with a character who feels like an old friend. I can't remember what made me pick up the first book of the series "Don Of the Dead" but I am so grateful I did. I think anyone who loves a mystery with a paranormal aspect (Pepper can interact with ghosts) would really enjoy this series.

When we last left Pepper Martin, she had been sacked from her job at the Garden View cemetery. Then she receives a note that her old friend Dan has been kidnapped. She must steal the bones of a long deceased Indian named Chester Goodshot Gomez from his mausoleum at Garden View. This starts Pepper off on her newest adventure. I won't spoil any of the plot but I can assure you that it is one wild ride. I fell in love with Pepper's newest ghost, like I usually do. I really enjoyed the back story to this one as well. There wasn't anything about the story that I didn't like or that annoyed me. Sometimes I know who the villain is before we get to the end. I didn't in this one, but even when I do guess the bad guy it never hampers my enjoyment of these stories.

Unlike a lot of "cozy" mysteries, the Pepper series takes some chances. Pepper's life is not frozen in time. Her life evolves and she grows as a person. She dates and discards. Her heart breaks. Her employment status evolves. I would like to see Pepper get her Happily Ever After one day because she deserves it, but the journey there is a lot of fun.

If you haven't read this series do yourself a favor and pick it up starting with "Don of the Dead" so that you can see Pepper's progress. These aren't deep or dark books but that is what makes them so perfect. They are just plain fun and enjoyable!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pepper To The Rescue!, January 26, 2012

This review is from: Wild Wild Death (A Pepper Martin Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
Unemployed Cemetery Tour guide, Pepper Martin is wondering about her future, when she receives word that her friend, Dan is coming to visit. Pepper's life is rather dull and her romance with Quinn is on hold until he can come to grips with the fact that Pepper can see and speak with ghosts.

Quinn takes Pepper to a Cleveland Indians game where they meet up with very dedicated fans of the team. The team loses but the fans suddenly recognize Pepper and want her to do something with the myth that a Taopi Indian, Chester Goodshot Gomez had cursed the town when he wasn't buried in New Mexico. Pepper thinks they are crazy.

Next thing, Pepper learns that Dan has been kidnapped and unless she brings Goodshot's bones back to be buried on the Pueblo, they will kill him. Pepper being big-hearted digs up Chester and they (yes, Chester is present,) go off to the rescue.

Nothing ever goes smoothly for our Pepper and she takes us on a fun but adventurous journey to rescue Dan and inter Chester's bones. Learning along the way about the Taopi traditions.

A good book and I loved the ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truely Fun Read!!, January 10, 2012

I agree with one of the other reviewers that this is one of my go to series. I actually make a list of the different series of books I read and put them in my calendar so I don't miss the new one when it comes out.

I love the Pepper Martin series, it's totally a fun read. And I realllly liked this one in particular, especially Jessie, YUM!! Maybe we will see him in a future book, give Quinn something to think about.

Anyway, I think if you want to curl up and spend a few hours with some fun characters this is a great way to do it.

Always look forward to the next in the series, wish she could write faster!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, January 16, 2012
This review is from: Wild Wild Death (A Pepper Martin Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
I like Pepper. With no job to call her own and some questions about her personal life, Pepper heads to New Mexico when her friend Dan is kidnapped and the ransom is the bones of a dead sharpshooter whose ghost travels with Pepper. This was a good mystery that kept me guessing throughout most of the story. The setting was so picturesque, I felt like I was there with Pepper. I like the tone of the story and the secondary characters complemented Pepper and her actions as she tries to solve the puzzle and find her friend. I can't believe I've never read any of the books in this series and now I'm especially looking forward to the next book in this entertaining series.

Another great edition to the Pepper Martin series. For those readers hoping for a Pepper/Quinn reconciliation after the previous book, think again. Quinn's got competition, and it's not Dan. After reading the book I am now rooting for the competition!! Looking forward to the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book of a wonderful series!, January 12, 2012

I recently discovered the Pepper Martin series and after getting hooked on the first one I had to read them all and I am happy to report that I found each book to be terrific! Pepper is funny and likeable but she is also a very realistic heroine...she has human struggles including financial issues and disappointments in love but she ultimately does the right thing for the ghosts she meets. I also enjoy the supporting cast and the cemetary backround since they make the perfect foil for Pepper's character. This series is well worth reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars still feels fresh and leaves you wanting more, January 25, 2012
This review is from: Wild Wild Death (Kindle Edition)
Pepper is unemployed and short on cash. When a long time friend is in need if help, she plunders a mausoleum and heads west on a new adventure and mystery. With the help of a ghost and a hunky cop, will Pepper be able to help her friend before it is too late?

Wild Wild Death is fast moving and full of humor and adventure. The series still feels fresh and leaves you wanting more.

I'm anxious for the next installment.

Love this little series, but i do get irritated at the fact that every good looking dude she meets she goes to bed with. I agree with another reviewer that it is kinda sleezy of her and she needs to Drop Quinn like a bad habit too. Quinn makes fun of her and does not believe her when she tells him of her gift. I did like Jesse much better than Quinn.
Glad she is back at the cemetery too. We need more Ella she is sweet.
