Biography

A five-time Grammy-winning musician, actor, artist, activist and humanitarian, Ziggy Marley has established his presence on the public stage for over a quarter-century. Which is why, perhaps, there's a wisp of irony in naming his latest album Wild and Free, given not only the focused writing and recording of his fourth solo studio album, but also Ziggy's concurrent involvement in the ... 4.0 out of 5 stars Reggae in my head!!!! June 17, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Reggae doesn't need a hard core edge to be good ... this doesn't and it is. This will grow on you with repeated listening's. Listening with the top down, or out back with the BBQ, or just hanging out with friends .. it's good music .... enjoy it and the summer!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ziggy's Gift June 17, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
While I really enjoyed Ziggy's previous solo outings, I am thrilled with "Wild and Free." Ziggy returns to roots reggae on this release, and man does he ever return strong!

One of the things I appreciate about Ziggy is that he does his own thing and is not afraid to break out of the mold in which many people placed him. Julian and Stephen both sound a lot more like their father than Ziggy, but you can still hear a hint of Bob in Ziggy's voice. Like his father, Ziggy's songs range from playful and bouncy to political and serious to introspective. There is a good mix on "Wild and Free." The overall vibe of his lyrics is that of self-empowerment and looking within oneself to find answers in the midst of a complicated world.

I've listened to the entire album at least a dozen times and still cannot get enough. I love the positive vibration that Ziggy exudes. I look at his music as a gift to the planet. In a world of turmoil Ziggy's music makes me realize that everything will be alright.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great album September 23, 2012
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is my favorite Ziggy album since the last Melody Makers. The first song and title track with Woody is great even though the lyrics are wonky. The rest of the album has enough variation to keep it from falling into the normal reggae cliches. Strong vocals, music and song writing.

4.0 out of 5 stars good album June 10, 2012

ziggy marley wild and free, is not too shabby of an album. Its not great but its not horrible either. Being a hugee Bob Marley fan the past year and a half or so, i had to check out ziggy when i found out there was a new album. Upon getting it i was humored at the way the cd is held, but the music was really interesting. I was suprised to find not just reggae but rap involved in it too and even some hard over driven guitar solos. Over all really not a bad album but it could be a tad better.

Love this one - I was blown away when I found out that Woody Harrelson is on the 1st track with Ziggy (who knew Woody could sing??). Postive vibes throughout - "Roads Less Travelled" is probably my favorite track. Ziggy continues to preach peace, love and acceptance - buy this album, you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ziggy does nothing but make you feel good and inspired December 5, 2011

"Wild And Free" in my opinion is a much better solo album than "Love Is My Religion" yet not as genius as "Dragonfly". It is a very good reggae album with some great tracks that just make you feel good. I was very surprised at how good Woody Harrelson's voice is on the opening track,"Wild And Free" where Ziggy sings;"I see hemp fields forever growing wild and free" with a great follow up by Woody;"I see marijuana trees blowin in the breeze". Ziggy's voice is always beautiful like his fathers.
In a more important song titled "Personnel Revolution" he sings of a time that this country is going through now and that is the right's for everyone and our corrupt government, he sings;"I need a revolution, my very own revolution, my personnel revolution","crying times have changed, fighting everyday, there must be a way". "Is this democracy?" he sings. Such mellow and relaxing grooves. In "Changes" he sings,"There's so much hurt all over the place, changes, for ordinary people."
Ziggy Marley has made an album that deals with the pressure of the everyday man and woman, struggling or otherwise. It's a very good album with excellent production, it's an album that will make you think of yourself and others. Ziggy is on top of his writing skills, other notables favorites are, "Get Out Of Town", "Roads Less Traveled", "Welcome To The World" and others that will keep this disc in your player for a while.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mature and Accessible June 27, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I have been a Ziggy Marley fan a very long time since the debut Melody Makers' album "Hey World." I always anticipated a new release from the Marley family and saw them on tour many times. I have rarely been disappointed. I even enjoyed the unheralded, hip-hop - inspired release "Jahmekya" back in 1991. The MM's were always about Ziggy's writing and singing in a more traditional vein, rootsy reggae vibes augmented by syths and percussion. It was Stephen who, by all accounts, introduced the more urban, hip-hop inspiration and vibe. I frankly liked both. The Marley brother's carry their father's torch and have evolved their sound and musical influences. More grounding breaking is Stephen's "Mind Control", a brilliant breakthrough in sound production and musical synthesis. "Wild and Free" is an out-growth of Ziggy's sound as perfected in his last fine solo albums "Dragonfly" and "Love is My Religion" and his brilliant "family" album "Family Time." Always impeccably - produced, (Don Was) Ziggy's sound is crystal clear and mixed perfectly. " Wild and Free" is no exception. The title track has a surprising strong vocal by guest, Woody Harrelson. But the standout tracks "It"- featuring Heavy D, and" Mmmmm Mmmm "contain beautiful melodies and terrific backing vocals. The lyrics continue Ziggy's introspection, but adds good story telling in "Elisabeth." This album is extremely consistent and holds up well with repeated listening. It is a solid effort and will prove to be the perfect backdrop for the perfect summer day 2011 and beyond.

My favorite Ziggy joint. The first track is the classic but Forward to Love is brilliant and the whole thing is excellent. Buy it now if you love Zig or Bob.
