Syd finally is free of her powers. She has everything she wanted. She is finally normal. But instead of finding happiness she feels more alone than ever and feels more cut off from her own life. Even her own family aren't fighting her need for normalcy anymore. Worse, they not only seem to accept her normalcy but leave her out of family business. Isn't this what she always wanted? So then why does she suddenly feel so empty and without purpose?
In this fourth chapter of The Hayle Coven series Sydlynn Hayle has finally got everything she wanted and fought for. She is finally independent of her own conflicts, her family and her destiny. She is free to create her own destiny and go her own way. But then why, when she finally has everything she thought she always wanted, is everything falling apart? Is normality really all its cracked up to be?

This fourth chapter in Syd's story has her fighting to get back what she wanted to lose in the first place. But first she has to fight to be heard. She has to now convince everyone in her life that she was wrong. But nobody seems to listen. Not only that but she keeps on having these dreams that she knows she should understand but cannot. As she feels cut off from everyone in her own family, she is forced to question everything she knows as truth to find the key to fixing everything.
There are even greater mysteries at work as she realises her family is battling an even greater conflict that makes her own conflicts seem paltry in comparison. But is Syd truly powerless? Or has the sacrifice of her own identity birthed a newer power? Syd is faced with even more questions that she has to ask herself. As Syd realises she is seemingly powerless, she finally comes to accept who she truly is. She finally knows who she wants and what she wants but it may be too late. She is in a race against time to save not only her lost self, but the boy she now knows is meant for her, and as much as she may be powerless this will not stop her in trying to saving her family from the very dangerous ancient threat of destruction.

Patti Larsen has once again crafted a plot that is a maze of twists and turns. Just when you think you have this story figured out, she throws you another curveball. I love reading a book that has me guessing until the last page and wondering, heart in throat, whether there is enough time to save everyone. Patti weaves even more layers of mystery into Syd's story. Will Syd finally get the answers she has been searching for? Or has her fight for independence been the ultimate sacrifice not only of herself but of everything she knows and loves? Read this fourth chapter of The Hayle Coven series to find out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better and Better! March 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Bittersweet, that's what The Wild was. I zoomed right through the four books in this series that have been published. When I began this one, I was excited to continue into the story but also sad because book five is not out for me to read yet :( I am really in love with this series and will be chomping at the bit to get my hands on book five!

The Wild picks up right from where Demon Child ended. Syd is still minus her demon, and it seems that everyone hates her or is mad at her now. Way for everyone to be supportive, while they still have their magic in tact, right? Even the coven is giving her the cold shoulder and she has been banned from attending the meetings. Not only is Syd feeling abandoned, but her now-mortal father and her mother are so wrapped up in coven business, what with The Wild riders coming to destroy earth as they know it and rebuild. Now that Syd has the freedom she always longed for, something doesn't feel right. There is still some sort of magic lurking inside of her, the same magic that was causing Syd and her demon to never mesh in the first place. Now it is a race against time, with Quaid and Sunny by her side, to track down The Chosen of the Light and reclaim what rightfully belongs to her, not to mention save the world!

There wasn't as much action in The Wild 'as in the previous books but I still enjoyed every single word of it. I had an idea on where Syd's "other" magic came from but wasn't 100% sure until Patti chose to revealed it. As with each book prior, I still wanted to slap Celeste silly. That woman! Patti Larsen has a way of writing that will easily make her one of your favorite authors. The Hayle Coven novels are fast paced and full of suspense that are enjoyable for all ages of readers, from teens to adults. Grab your copy of Family Magic (book one) and you will be surprised how fast you devour each book in this series! Now, if only I culd get my hands on book five *tapping my nails in "patience"*

5.0 out of 5 stars A FANTASTIC READ!! July 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
They say, be careful what you wish for, and in "The Wild" Sydlynn Hayle finds out exactly what that means. She had always wanted a normal life just like any other teenager. Now she has that; her demon taken from her and her magical power somehow bound. When Brad Peters - who had been attracted to her because of her magic and his own latent magic - dumps her, and Quaid Moromond seems to be ignoring her, she starts regretting her wish for normality. Add to this the frustration of not having her demon and her magic when the coven is in dire need of her help, and we have a very frustrated and sorry-for-herself young girl. The dreams that she and her friend Pain have, add an unexpected twist to an already exciting and suspenseful story.

As is usually the case with Patti Larsen's books, I simply could not put the book down. Apart from continuous action and nonstop suspense which kept me riveted, the author has a tremendously comfortable and easy-to-read way of telling the story. I particularly loved the quirky and often hilarious dialogue. Talk about hilarious, Syd's thoughts and inner dialogue had me howling with laughter. Even while thinking serious thoughts, Syd still has a funny way of expressing things to herself.

Except for normal developmental changes, the author kept all her characters' personalities consistent throughout the series so far. This helps the reader to love, understand and sympathize with all the characters - even the not so nice ones. She brilliantly integrates Syd's normal life of school, friends and boyfriends into her paranormal dealings with the coven, thus making the story so much more believable.

I would advise readers to get the first three books in the Hayle Coven Series before reading "The Wild". A huge cheer for Patti Larsen for another beautifully told story and a well deserved five stars. (Ellen Fritz)

My official bio reads like this: Patti Larsen is an award-winning middle grade and young adult author with a passion for the paranormal. But that sounds so freaking formal, doesn't it? I'm a storyteller who hears teenager's voices so loud I have to write them down. I love sports even though they don't love me. I've dabbled in everything from improv theater to film making and writing TV shows, singing in an all girl band to running my own hair salon.

But always, always, writing books calls me home.

I've had my sights set on world literary domination for a while now. Which means getting my books out there, to you, my darling readers. It's the coolest thing ever, this job of mine, being able to tell stories I love, only to see them all shiny and happy in your hands... thank you for reading.

As for the rest of it, I'm short (permanent), slightly round (changeable) and blonde (for ever and ever). I love to talk one on one about the deepest topics and can't seem to stop seeing the big picture. I happily live on Prince Edward Island, Canada, home to Anne of Green Gables and the most beautiful red beaches in the world, with my very patient husband and four massive cats.
