4.0 out of 5 stars promising extension of Ms. Janelle's Wilde series, June 3, 2008
This review is from: Wild for Him (Paperback)
Ex-Marine turned security agent Ben Cabrera has maintained his hard attitude through every aspect of his life. Events that occurred during the time he served in the Iraq war have left him heartbroken and unwilling to consider getting emotionally involved in a romantic relationship - regardless of how much he desires the young woman he's being hired to guard 24/7.

Christy Delacroix is used to her father Nathan, a governor frontrunner, hiring occasional security for her but she's stunned to learn that he's hired Ben to guard her full time. Ben will even be moving in with her until the assignment is over. Christy's worked hard to make a life for herself outside of her parents' political ambitions but she's not going to complain about having the one man she's been infatuated with for years suddenly at her disposable - and she's got definite ideas about how they could be spending their time.

Nathan's received an anonymous note instructing him to drop out of the race for governor or risk losing what's most precious to him. With the election only three weeks away he opts to hire Ben while keeping his daughter in the dark about the threat. Ben's been provided with details about the threat, her ex-fiancé and her new up-and-coming business. Ben can't deny an attraction to Christy that he's tried very hard to ignore but he certainly isn't prepared for her to turn up the heat and do everything in her power to get him to put his ethics aside and get down and dirty with her. There's no doubt someone is targeting Christy but with her father being a political hopeful, a disgruntled fiancé, and a ticked off business competitor how is Ben going to narrow it down to just one suspect?

I've really loved the whole WILDE series so I was thrilled when I learned that the series would continue with a spin-off involving 4 of Joel's (BORN TO BE WILDE) friends who are all ex-marines now working at the same security firm. At first Nathan and Christy don't seem to be very personable but then as their backgrounds are revealed you're better able to understand what drives them. I found them to be memorable characters and really loved the way they interacted with each other. Janelle Denison has successfully captivated readers with the WILDE family and it appears that she'll continue the trend with their friends.

If you haven't read the WILDE series then I highly recommend them - especially WILDE THING. It's the book that had toes tingling and thighs clenching amongst romance readers everywhere.

4.0 out of 5 stars wonderful contemporary romance, June 3, 2008
This review is from: Wild for Him (Paperback)
Christy Delacroix's seemingly ethical father Nathan is running for governor on a values first ticket. However, someone tries to force him to drop out by threatening to harm his daughter. Though he loves his daughter, Nathan refuses to be bullied out of the race. Instead he hires former marine cum bodyguard Ben Cabrera to keep Christy safe.

Christy and Ben know each other and were already sharing an attraction before her father hired him. However, Christy is recovering from a horrific relationship and still escaping her mother's need for total control while Ben knows she is not a one night stand or even a two week stand. She plans to have fun with Big Ben, but only for a short time. Ben, on the other hand, wants things to remain professional although he cannot resist her lure as he tries to uncover who the threat is and keeping her ex away from her as well as the middle age lothario who wants her. Her plan is for him to pose as her boyfriend; something he wishes was real but he knows she is upper crust while he is a working class stiff.

The bodyguard love story has been used numerous times (for instance the Costner-Houston movie and The First Daughter), but the lead couple makes this an entertaining fresh tale. The story line is fast-paced although the mystery behind the threat is used totally to supplement the romance. In some ways Ben steals the show with his un-Roving approach to election politics. Readers who appreciate a wonderful contemporary between two likable protagonists with some suspense to expedite the prime plot will enjoy WILD FOR HIM.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wild For Him, February 5, 2009

This review is from: Wild for Him (Paperback)
Former Marine and current security specialist Ben Cabrera has just landed a great assignment guarding Christy Delacroix, the daughter of a gubernatorial candidate who has been the target of a stalker. Christy is quite happy that Ben is her new bodyguard and figures she can finally have some fun. Will they be able to maintain a professional relationship or will things turn personal?

Wild For Him is not specifically about one of the Wilde boys, it still has all the great elements of the other Wilde books. It is a fast-paced and sensual read that will keep you engrossed from the first page.

Wild For Him is the first title in the spin-off series of the Wilde books. Ben is Joel Wilde's best friend and former Marine buddy as well as one of his coworkers at Elite Security Specialists. When Ben is given this assignment to guard Christy, he is not so sure he can keep this strictly professional. During the assignment, Christy wants Ben to pretend to be her boyfriend for a special event. This leads to the crazy stalker stepping up his game. Everyone is thinking that the threats are from her former fiancé, to ruin her father's campaign but Ben has other ideas about who might be behind these attacks. In addition to the suspense and mystery of who the stalker might be, there are some really wonderful romantic scenes. Ben has had his share of heartache and really tries not to get personally involved with Christy. When the couple does get together, I really loved their chemistry. Ms. Denison does a wonderful job in conveying their reluctance - Christy's is due to her failed engagement and cold mother, and Ben's is due to his guilt over his failure to protect his fiancée - as well as the blossoming love for each other. Wild For Him is a wonderful continuation of the Wilde series--suspenseful, quick-paced, and romantic. It is definitely one for the keeper shelf.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy 3.5 star romantic suspense, October 22, 2008
By
This review is from: Wild for Him (Paperback)
When her father runs for governor of Illinois and receives threats against his family, Christy Delacroix finds herself the reluctant recipient of an armed security guard. Making matters worse is an ex-fiance who has turned into a stalker. But one look at ex-Marine Ben Cabrera, and Christy is interested in more than personal safety. An obvious attraction sparks between the two, and as much as Ben tries to keep it strictly professional, a very flirtatious Christy makes it difficult, particularly when she insists that Ben masquerade as her boyfriend to discourage another interested party. As the two spend more time together in anticipation of the election (and wonder what will happen between them after Ben's assignment is over), the person behind the threats accelerates his plan to keep Nathan Delacroix from taking office.

Author Denison leaves the familiar territory of the "Wilde" clan and has started a new series featuring the elite security guards that are friends of the Wilde family. And she smartly gives Ben and interesting back story with more emotional depth than readers ordinarily will find in a typical alpha male character. While touted as a romantic suspense novel, it isn't difficult to determine the identity of the culprit, but Denison keeps the action going with plenty of scorching love scenes. The romantic tension and passion are revved up but don't detract from the overall story.

I really enjoyed this book. Ben was featured in the last Wilde book Born to Be Wilde-Joel's story and I knew he would be a great character to have his own story. Christy was a great heroine and Ben was the ultimate alpha male hero. I have enjoyed all of Janelle's books, her novellas and anthologies.

5.0 out of 5 stars Romance and Suspense---4-1/2 Stars, August 27, 2008
This review is from: Wild for Him (Paperback)
Ex-Marine Ben Carbrera works with a security agency run by the Wilde family when he is hired as a bodyguard for the rich and beautiful Christy Delacroix. Though there is an instant mutual attraction, Ben doesn't mix business with pleasure. The sexual tension builds until it becomes impossible to ignore. When Christy sets out to seduce him, Ben finds himself weakening.

Ben worries about Christy's safety and is trying to figure out who is endangering her life. Hired by Christy's father to protect her, Ben doesn't want to let him down by having an affair with his daughter. He also has reasons of his own for not pursuing the attraction. Ben lost his fiance in Iraq, where she died in his arms. Carefully guarding his heart, he has vowed to never put himself in a position where he could be hurt like that again. Besides, Christy is way out of his social class.

This is a very good romantic suspense that will definitely hold your interest. My only complaint is that it isn't quite as steamy as the "Wilde" series, (Too Wilde To Tame, The Wilde Side, Born To Be Wilde, Wilde Thing) but this was well compensated for by the suspense. Enjoyable read.

I loved this transition from the Wilde family to the others guys that we've been introduced to in Janelle Denison's previous books. I was worried that the story wouldn't be as good...but I was so wrong, and can't wait until the next one comes out!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexy Continuation of Series, June 23, 2008
This review is from: Wild for Him (Paperback)
This story is about Ben a friend of fellow Wilde boys. He is in the bodyguard business with them and his next assignment is Christy. Her father hires him to protect her from a crazy guy who says will hurt someone he cares about during his election. Ms. Denison always writes steamy books which is the way I like them and she didn't disappoint me here. He tries to stay away and keep emotion out of it but he wants her to bad. Its like an onion each page is new layers of feelings and emotions about the two who just think they only want sex from each other but find out its worth risking it all for love. I would of given it 5 stars but this book was less than 300 pages. I felt she had the time to give a little bit more about the characters. Would of liked more details about stuff. Its a really good continuation in the series and would definatly read it. You don't have to have read the first ones in the series but I recommend them because they are really good reads.

I read a lot of erotic romance, and while there are a few staggeringly good writers in the genre (Selena Kitt pops to mind) I don't generally jump in expecting Baudelaire. Still I expect reasonably well crafted prose, and simply cannot lose myself in the story when words are misused, sentences lack subject verb agreement, prose is consistenly purple, and words are simply made up. The bones of a great story are here. I just wish these potentially wonderful characters had found themselves in the hands of a better writer.
