Book Description

May 1995
Despite the hunting of some species to extinction and the shrinking of their environments, wild horses have survived into the twentieth century. Elwyn Hartley Edwards, acclaimed author of The Encyclopedia of the Horse and The Ultimate Horse Book, offers a colorful overview of the remaining herds from around the world in Wild Horses.

In text and photos sure to delight any horse fancier, Wild Horses describes each herd in detail, including their history, particular mannerisms, habitat, styles of walking or trotting, and more. Wild Horses features the mustangs of the American West, the island-bound horses of Virginia and Nova Scotia, herds in the Ural Mountain foothills, ponies of the British Isles and the south of France, horses of the Iberian Peninsula, onagers of western Asia, and the brumbies of the Australian Outback.

With more than seventy outstanding color photographs and Edwards' authoritative text, Wild Horses is a stand-out tribute to a hardy wild species.

Also recommended: The Wolves of Yellowstone, Buffalo Nation, Big Cats.
