Marianne on Wild Horses,
By
This review is from: Wild Horses (MP3 Download)
"Wild Horse" was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of the Rolling Stone for their 1971 album Sticky Fingers, which featured an elaborate cover design by Andy Warhol. Mick Jagger wrote the lyrics while Keith Richard composed the music and came up with the title "Wild Horses". It was widely rumored that the song was about Jagger's girl friend, Marianne, who had a devastating substance abuse problem, although Jagger denied that publicly. In this song, Mick Jagger was the lead vocal, Keith Richards on electric guitar, Mick Taylor, together with Richards, on acoustic guitars, and Jim Dickenson, a session musician, on the piano. The song was recorded on December 1969, but was not released until June 1971 due to legal problems with the band's former label. The song ranked #28 in the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1971 and #98 in 2009.
