5.0 out of 5 stars superb romantic fantasy, June 7, 2008
This review is from: Wild Hunt (Silhouette Nocturne) (Mass Market Paperback)
Hellhound Venge Leidolf knows the right time to start the wild hunt is now. He or his brethren cannot stop its call. Geysa the Valkyrie knows her gift of allure makes her different from her warrior sisters. She and Venge have in common a need to avenge a wrong.

When Venge and Geysa meet, they, in spite of being natural enemies, are attracted to one another. They know their species' instinct is to kill the other, but they desire one another. Each puts aside the thirst to kill to team up in search of the horn that proclaims the ErlKing's wild hunt to prevent it from calling the death, mayhem and destruction that automatically comes when it sounds.

The latest WILD HUNT saga (see UNBOUND and GUARDIAN'S KEEP) is a superb romantic fantasy in which star-crossed lovers either must kill the other as it's in their DNA imprint or let love lead them elsewhere. Venge and Geysa know they have quests to fulfill and that desire, attraction and that cursed L word are not convenient at this time and between their respective heritages at any time. Fans will relish this entry while newcomers will quickly become devotees of this excellent fantasist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!, February 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was a little scared to start reading this book because while it had 5 stars, there were also only 5 reviewers. I kept waiting to see if more people would review, and see if the book maintained a high rating. I know some people, myself included, sometimes think that maybe the first few reviewers might know the author or something, and are creating 5 star reviews to kind of help them out. And maybe that is true in some situations, maybe not (I don't really know how these things work!), but in this case, the 5 star reviews are totally and completely merited! I absolutely adored this book!

The Wild Hunt was once lead by the ErlKing, a god who would use his own pack of hellhounds to hunt down any prey he wished. The hunt was controlled by a horn which was stolen from the ErlKing, and had been hidden away, out of sight, out of mind. Until now. The Valkyries are desperate to find the horn and hide it away before the ErlKing notices the horn's presence, and comes back to resume his Wild Hunt. Because someone IS using the horn, its unearthly peal is summoning hellhounds from across the lands. A few Valkyries are staying where the hellhounds are gathered, shielded so that the hellhounds don't know they are Valkyrie. They need to keep an eye on them if they are to figure out when and where the horn is sounding, since only hellhounds can hear the horn's call. Everything was going off without a hitch, but without any real progress, until Venge answered the horn's call. When Venge and the Valkyrie Geysa first spot each other, there is instant chemistry and attraction between the two. They make a deal and end up working together, although they each have their own goals and ideas of what to do with the horn when they find it.

I know this summary is really vague, but I want you to be as surprised and pleased by the plot as I was! I thoroughly enjoyed 'Wild Hunt'. This book had me flipping pages well into the night, and not even caring what time it was. I absolutely love the world that Lori Devoti has created, and can't wait to read more about it. I really enjoyed both of the characters, too, and how they developed. Throughout the story, Geysa's and Venge's interaction builds the chemistry between the two characters. I loved reading about the two of them, and I loved Geysa and Venge as a couple! In every romance book there is this one thing that will keep the two characters apart, but this one is actually very believable. I had so much fun reading this book, and not only is the romance amazing, but the story line is so interesting too! I can't wait to pick up the next book in the series! My only critique is that I really wish this book had been longer, because I so didn't want it to end! I definitely recommend this book. Happy reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unlikely love between paranormal rivals, June 27, 2009
This review is from: Wild Hunt (Silhouette Nocturne) (Mass Market Paperback)
Geysa Brynhilde, one of the Valkyries, lost her mother to the Wild Hunt, a mob of spectral hellhounds summoned by the Erl-King. Now that the Erl-King's horn has gone missing, she is determined to find it and prevent the Hunt from ever rising again. At the same time, Venge Leidolf, son of Risk Leidolf, the hellhound hero of Unbound (Intrigue), is in search of the horn as well, to summon the Hunt and take control of it in order to destroy his father for abandoning his mother. As the two meet in a ghost town on the fringe of the human world, they form an unlikely alliance in their quest for the same object, an alliance that soon becomes attraction and then love. But can love be possible between beings who have for so long been enemies, and can their love survive Venge's quest for revenge?

This third book in the series is stronger than the ones that went before it: there's fewer instances of awkward sentences and odd vocabulary, and one logic hole from the first book has been neatly patched. The world-building continues to fascinate and amaze me; every new twist and concept Lori Devoti brings to this interesting upgrade on Norse mythology makes you want to linger in this strange and mysterious world she has made so real for her readers!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great paranormal read!, November 24, 2008

This review is from: Wild Hunt (Silhouette Nocturne) (Mass Market Paperback)
Lori Devoti's Wild Hunt was a fantastic read! I read the first one in the series, Unbound and it was good too. This one is even better! I really liked how the hero took to the heroine immediately. Great chemistry between them! I really liked the hero, Venge! This is a different paranormal read because it doesn't star vampires and werewolves, it stars hellhounds. It is a very refreshing paranormal romance read! 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hellhounds and Valkyries and Shifters - oh my!, August 23, 2008
This review is from: Wild Hunt (Silhouette Nocturne) (Mass Market Paperback)
Romeo and Juliet thought they had problems... Hellhounds and Valkyries are born enemies - and that's without the complications of the stolen Horn of the Wild Hunt they are both sworn to capture, the revenge they are sworn to accomplish... And did I mention their relatives? An excellent entry in a series placed in a complex and fascinating world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Nocturne, May 30, 2008
This review is from: Wild Hunt (Silhouette Nocturne) (Mass Market Paperback)
Venge Leidolf is a hellhound who is consumed with finding the horn that the ErlKing had used to control the hellhounds. He is driven by revenge to find the horn and is determined to let nothing stand in his way. When he follows the call of the horn, he encounters Geysa, a Valkyrie and is immediately drawn to her. Geysa and her sister Valkyries are equally determined to find the horn and she instructed to get close to Venge in order to find the horn. The attraction between Venge and Geysa is undeniable and even though they are enemies they can't resist giving into their passion. As they pursue the elusive horn, strong wills collide and in the end they must overcome many obstacles that stand in the way of their love.
Ms. Devoti does an excellent job of world building and provides a unique cast of characters that hold the interest of the reader. I was intrigued to know more about hellhounds, Valkyries and the Norn. I thoroughly enjoyed Venge and Geysa's story and look forward to Ms. Devoti's next books.
Wild Hunt is the third book in Lori Devoti's Unbound series. Preceding books are Unbound and Guardian's Keep.
