4.0 out of 5 stars Good Addition
I usually wait to review a book in this genre until after I've tried recipes, but since I'm not confident in my wild berry collecting skills (yet) and the season's past for this year, I'll review it based on just reading it. I think this book was very good, most of the various wild foods had 4-6 recipes each, excpet some of the nuts. The directions seem to be very well...

Very little information is provided regarding the plants highlighted in the book; however, this book doesn't claim to be a foraging manual, it claims to be a cookbook, and it is -- a cookbook filled with the same three to six recipes over and over again, merely substituting different wild (or not so wild) fruit. This review is from: Wild Jams and Jellies: Delicious Recipes Using 75 Wild Edibles (Paperback)
Very little information is provided regarding the plants highlighted in the book; however, this book doesn't claim to be a foraging manual, it claims to be a cookbook, and it is -- a cookbook filled with the same three to six recipes over and over again, merely substituting different wild (or not so wild) fruit. Yes, it features 75 wild edibles, but considering that there's only about six recipes in it, it should only have been 81 pages long -- 75 to quickly gloss over the names and general conformation of the plants in question, and six for the recipes, with instruction to "insert X fruit here".

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Addition, November 30, 2009
This review is from: Wild Jams and Jellies: Delicious Recipes Using 75 Wild Edibles (Paperback)
The directions seem to be very well written and clear; I don't think I'll have a problem using them. This book, because it is focused on wild foods, would have greatly bennefited from colored pictures particularly for those individuals who are new to collecting wild edibles. Typically, I don't need pictures in a cook book but I think with the potential danger of collecting a wild plant that is toxic would boost my confidence. The other thing that I really would have liked to see in this book was a better description of what the fruit tasted like and perhaps what the recipe would go with (besides toast). Overall, I'm glad I purchased it.
