A very fun read,
By Armchair Interviews (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Wild Jinx (Warner Forever) (Mass Market Paperback)
The third in the Jinx series, this cajun story is blazing hot, peppered with humor and talent !
Celine Arseneaux is a reporter looking for a hot story. Given the chance for a great scoop, she puts on some next-to-nothing attire, and enters the Playpen, a Baton Rouge club for men and women. There, she is quite surprised when John LeDeux approaches her. She hasn't seen him in five years, and is shocked he even remembers her! John is afraid she is going to screw up his undercover operation, and so he steals her camera. To get even, she writes up a story for her newspaper about the police bust that happened shortly after their meeting. Without naming names, she wrote about a police officer posing as a gigolo just to bust the Dixie Mafia. Her story puts John in danger, and he quickly needs to hide from the public eye. Tante Lulu, John's 92-year-old aunt, has decided to call in Jinx, Inc., the treasure company to come to the bayou. She believes there is pirate treasure hidden in the swaps. A perfect opportunity for John to hide. But Celine pursues her story, and quickly the sparks heat up between her and John. Tante Lulu decides John needs a wife, and puts her plans in motion with the help of St. Jude, the patron saint of hopeless causes . Soon, the thunderbolts strike and Celine and John are both a bit confused and a little in love. But Celine is wary around John and he can't figure out why. With a little investigative work by Tante Lulu, it is soon revealed. Before long, Celine and John are fighting and things don't look so good. Will they work it out? With some help from family and the various statues of St. Jude, anything is possible. Tante Lulu is a wonderful character. Full of vitality and humor, she really brings this story to life. Firmly believing in family first, she tries to do what is best for everyone. The characters were believable, and the storyline fresh and energetic. The historical facts about the Bayou was detailed but didn't overwhelm the story. I quite enjoyed it! Armchair Interview says: Rich characters and good writing make this story great fun to read.

Plot was lacking. Heroine was unlikeable.,

To show why I did not like the plot and heroine, I will be giving away much of the story below. So, don't read anymore if that bothers you.
CAUTION SPOILERS: Celine had a crush on John since high school. They had a one-night stand during college. They were both drunk. They did not get together again. She was pregnant and did not tell him. The reason was because he went out with many different women and she thought he wouldn't want to be a father. Six years later they are together due to work but she continues to not tell him. She also prints a newspaper article that blows his cover - he was working undercover as a cop. He could have gotten killed because of that. Then she was rude, mean and acted like she hated him for most of the rest of the book. He learned about his son, was mad at her for awhile, but then tried to get together with her for a relationship. She continued to avoid him even though she "missed him so much it hurt." In my opinion, he hadn't done anything wrong, other than one thing described below. Her actions and treatment of him disgusted me. John's one mistake was later in the story when he and Celine started to get along. Immediately after having sex, Eve, his former girlfriend showed up unexpectedly at his door. Celine walked out mad. John let her go so he could talk to Eve. He should have told Eve to come back later, but he didn't which was stupid. To summarize the plot, he sees her, tries to have a relationship with her, falls in love with her. She treats him bad and pretends to hate him. When he later asks her to marry him, she says yes. Sexual language: moderate. Number of sex scenes: four. Setting: present day New Orleans, Baton Rouge and bayou area. Copyright: 2008. Genre: contemporary romance.

I really enjoyed all the LeDeux stories that went before and was really looking forward to T-Jean's story.. This book just didn't have it. A lot of filler pages mentioning people from the Jinx series. Very lack lustre.

I have read Several of Sandra Hill's books and she is always a good read. But I have to say "Wild Jinx" is her best to date. I love a book that can make me laugh out loud and this book had me in tears I was laughing so hard. I can't wait to see what she comes up with next.

I just thought Tee-John's Story would be better!,

I was really looking forward to the book on Tee John. This book did have some good moments, but really seemed to lose steam in the end. I am huge fan of Sandra Hill and love all the previous books, but this one just didn't have that extra "something" to make it really special.

Wild Jinx,
This review is from: Wild Jinx (Warner Forever) (Mass Market Paperback)
The last person reporter Celine Arseneux expected to see when she entered a Baton Rough night club was Detective John LeDeux. Celine had a one-night stand with John back in college that left her with a young son. When John didn't respond to her letter informing him of his impending fatherhood, she wrote him off as a womanizer. A reputation that he more than proved as the years went on and he was labeled as the Sex Detective. But when John learns that a misunderstanding kept him from being there for his son, will he forgive what he sees as Celine's betrayal. Especially since before John discovered his son he was on his way to falling in love with her.
I enjoyed Wild Jinx. While Wild Jinx left me wanting a little more emotional connection between John and Celine and although the whole scene with John's sometime girlfriend/lover Eve left me scratching my head and a little frustrated Wild Jinx is fun and spunky. It's definitely worth a good read! Melissa Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

I've been waiting for Tee John's story for so long, and was really happy when it finally came out. I thought it was great. Tee John got a perfect love story, and we fans got to experience more of the crazy Cajun way of life. It's a fun wild & sexy story, and as all Hill's books do, it finishes big. Loved the ending. It's romantic as well as sexy.
Tee John is the little brother to those sexy Cajun's in Sandra Hill's Cajun series. He is also a fun secondary character (along with Taunte LuLu) in the new Jinx series. So this book is really a combination of Jinx/Cajun series.
