With its fold-out cover and photo story booklet inside, "Wild Is Love" was an extravagant Capitol project. Issuing an album of all-new music was nearly unheard of at the time and to issue one written as a complete project equally unheard. Capitol had no idea what to expect but the album indeed was a hit and got big radio play. Nelson Riddle's arrangements deserve much credit; he was at his zenith here. Please note that there was NO Broadway production of "Wild Is Love." The album was written as an album and there was some consideration of taking it further as the basis for a musical, but there was no such musical ever staged. "Wild Is Love" was good enough for Patti Drew to do her own, later, version for Capitol (!) and I believe there was even a third version. Cole also did a T.V. performance of the music complete with the narrative.

"original and his best ~ Nat King Cole & Nelson Riddle",
This review is from: Wild Is Love (Audio CD)
Capitol Records presents "Wild Is Love", featuring an original production with music by Ray Rasch and lyrics by Dotty Wayne and the voice of Nat King Cole...with chorus, orchestration and conducted by Nelson Riddle is truly a masterpiece...sample one of the finest collections ever recorded by an artist who was always on top of the charts. No other singer in the business had the warmth that this man gave during a performance. Along with Frank Sinatra, Cole built the Capitol Towers and brought them fame and fortune. Cole in my estimation did more for Capitol Records than any other recording artist of that time...and the record still holds today.Nat had a tenderness in his voice, completely flawless...he could never deliver a bad tune...his style and signature of making a song his own has never been duplicated. Within this compilation are 14 heartfelt ballads and upbeat tunes...Some songs have never seen the light of day...a collectors dream come true...more selections from the greatest entertainer of our time! In alphabetical order and with an all-star guest cast are the 14 selections: ARE YOU DISENCHANTED? BEGGAR FOR THE BLUES HE WHO HESITATES IN LOVE AGAIN INTRODUCTION HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS OF GIRLS IT'S A BEAUTIFUL EVENING PICK-UP STAY WITH IT WILD IS LOVE WILD IS LOVE FINALE WORLD OF NO RETURN WOULDN'T YOU KNOW Entire collection is a stand out in my book...America never had a more widely beloved ambassador (except for Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong), hope this is a glimpse into the future of better things coming our way if the recording industry ever wakes up to the listeners and fans of good music. Digitally remastered by Bob Norberg at Capitol Records, Hollywood, California...you can't go wrong with any of Cole's albums that are now on CD...many are hard-to-find and some not well known...highlights and stand outs are the entire album with brilliant arrangements by the master of orchestration Nelson Riddle and Nat performing them...beautiful and heartfelt ballads and fun tunes...featuring Nat's original style are simply captivating...Nat sings this from the heart and you're loving it...now we can relive the songs that gave us so much pleasure...remember Nat was with us for such a short time...just sit back, give a listen and enjoy the sounds we grew up with...songs we've come to love over these past plus sixty years...gotta love it! Nat was awarded a posthumous plaque to the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame, naming him one of the major early influences on rock 'n' roll...they'll never be another pass this way again...thank you Captiol for this release of Nat "King" Cole for the decades of music that followed...his songs will remain with us always and forever...just the way we like 'em! Total Time: 36:00 on 14 Tracks ~ Capitol 828511 ~ (1/24/1995)

Nat King Col's Talent On Wild Is Love Album,

I have heard the album and was impressed with Mr. Cole's smooth rendition of all of the different types of music throughout. His music will be with us for many, many years to come. Wild Is Love is an album that didn't become as popular as other music by Nat King Cole, but in my view it was one of his best works.

My fiance and I loved Nat.On the night I decided to propose we drove around Branch Brook Park in Newark NJ in my father's 190SL with the top down. WNEW had an evening program where they played entire albums; that evening they played "Wild is Love". Needless to say it became "our album". I lost my love in '98, but "Wild is Love" is still "our album".

This is a wonderful representation of how great the 60's music business was. Superb orchestration by the awesome Nelson Riddle. I still have my Mother's vinyl copy of this album, but when I found it on Amazon I had to buy the CD.The premise is that the record tells a story complete with a storybook. the tale is Love/heartache/new love and all points in between told and sung by one of the premier voices of the era. the CD comes with a booklet with pictures and verbage.

This Cd is a great cd of Nat King Cole. It brings me back to my childhood, and my father who got me interested in music in the first place. This was one of the records he would put on our Hi-fi, on a stack of other records, and I always loved this one. It is kind of a story, but great music along the way.
