Book Description

Something deadly was eliminated centuries ago in
Europe. Now its cousins have awakened in the rainforest.

WILD MEAT is a story of nocturnal primates, medieval drawings, transnational
mobsters, and a strange new phenomenon on the Lonely-Planet-reading
backpackers' circuit.

Fleeing on foot through the central African rainforest after a botched attempt to spy on loggers, Amy Kellet comes across the carcass of something that looks a lot like a bush baby - except that it's at least ten times too big.

Her description of the find on a zoological web forum is ignored by scientists, but not by others who would prefer that the animals' existence not be publicized.

She also draws the attention of amateur historian Stephen Stokes, who sends Amy images of something that's a pretty close match with the creature she saw. He says the drawings are from the Middle Ages and the Spanish Conquest. He says he's got a storage locker full of them, but wants her to keep it quiet because they're stolen goods.

Working together, Amy and Stephen begin to understand the connection between his medieval evidence and her recent find. While working out what made the beasts valuable in the distant past, they struggle to stay ahead of present-day thugs who have a high-stakes interest in keeping the animals a secret.

Good pace, great plot. Details feel authentic and flow well with the story. An enjoyable read about an animal that easily could have been.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very unusual May 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
It took me almost half way through the book to get my attention, I thought it was a lost cause. There was a lot of skipping around, the time line didn't seem to match up. No CHARACTER development made it hard to remember who the people were. Then it almost exploded and I couldn't put it down from there. The author has come up with a truly unique creature and its a wild ride from half way in. Buy it and enjoy, but be patient.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read! November 15, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a real sci-fi thriller! Once I got into it I had a hard time putting it down....and then I kept wanting to go back and read "just a few more pages". A fast paced story across several continents where the action just kept building at every turn. The imagery used to describe "boof" juice was amazing! I also liked how the author gave the bad guys descriptive nicknames....easy way to keep them straight. This book would make a great sci-fi movie on the big screen....3D!
