5.0 out of 5 stars Is the TEXAS reviewer ever wrong!
The review by the Texas music fan is so wrong-headed, I had to write a review of Wild Night Out. I listen to this CD all the time. It is my favorite Jimmy Thackery CD. 2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment
Jimmy's got lightning fast fingers and can play the crap out of the guitar. The show spotlights Jimmy's guitar playing and that's about where the fun ends.

True, Jimmy's a hell of a player but his approach showcases a diappointing trend among many great blues players - the tendency to view their rhythm sections as mere vehicles for soloing while missing the whole...

The review by the Texas music fan is so wrong-headed, I had to write a review of Wild Night Out. I listen to this CD all the time. It is my favorite Jimmy Thackery CD. All you have to do is tune your ear to the audience at Sully's (recorded live in Dearborn, MI). Listen to them go absolutely WILD after "If You Go." I have sat with Jimmy, learned about this complex and interesting man. I have seen him play at a distance of 10 feet. I have played the guitar for 30 years. I know something about good guitar playing. I can tell you there is a very good reason why Jimmy's picture and trademark hat are display cased on the wall at Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago. He is one of the finest blues guitarists ever and this album is World-Class blues. Thackery's fretwork is not only clean and crisp... he is a total professional who can weave together 30 minutes of incredible blues licks with ease, grace, and style. There are no bluesmen better than Jimmy Thackery. He is a master guitarist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finest live album I've ever heard!, October 31, 1999
This review is from: Wild Night Out (Audio CD)
Most blues/blues rock bands I've heard live sound so much better live than on live recordings that it's usually very disappointing when you hear their CD efforts. I've never seen Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers live, but if the same holds true for this CD as most I hear, then they must be one hell of a live band. This is quite simply the best live album I've ever heard! Close you're eyes and you'd believe you were at the gig. The energy and enthusiasm of the band make this one of the most enjoyable gigs I've ever heard - right up there with the best of Albert Collins and James Cotton.

Living at the ends of the earth here in New Zealand, we do not get to hear many quality artists live. This album almost overcomes that disadvantage. The live sound just about transports you to this venue! Jimmy Thackery's guitar is sensational. This CD rates as one the favourites of my collection which I never get tired of. Listen to 'Wild night out', 'If you go', 'Edward's Blues' and 'Flyin' Low' particularly. If you consider buying a blues/rock album, this one must be one of the first you should consider.

5.0 out of 5 stars Texans Don't Know Everything, April 20, 2000
This review is from: Wild Night Out (Audio CD)
I have personally seen Jimmy live many times and it is an exhilirating performance every time. This album is a prime example of why Thackery is considered one the finest blues axemen around. His signature driving beat is evident throughout and his rendition of Hendrix's Red House is the best I've ever heard, maybe better than Hendrix's. Everyone should go see Thackery live at least once in their life, it is a real treat. I can't wait, I'm seeing him this Saturday. JIMMY IS GUITAR GOD!

5.0 out of 5 stars TONEMONSTER, March 25, 2003

First off, as a musician I buy music to study & listen to. Thackery on this album captures the ultimate strat tone I've ever heard (LIVE)! As an album it's 100% listenable. This is a trio at it's best since A Band of Gypsys and with better tone thanks to 30 yr.s of technology. I guess you could say that Jimmy took over where Jimmi left off. Homage is payed to Hendrix on the last cuts , but Red House with Jimmy's trem shows you may want to hear surf music again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MOST ENJOYABLE LISTEN TO A FABULOUS LIVE CD, December 3, 2010
This review is from: Wild Night Out (Audio CD)
Listening to Wild Night Out! makes me immediately remember why I firmly believe that Jimmy Thackery is one of the most talented and very best living electric guitar players of rock and roadhouse blues. In a live format Jimmy is much more free to embellish his music with more tremendous guitar licks and solos than he seems to be when he is in the studio. Wild Night Out! is Jimmy Thackery's best demonstration of how to outstandingly play the electric guitar in rock blues music! The Drivers are an excellent band and provide outstanding accompaniment in a live setting. On A Wild Night Out! the band plays at the very top of their potential. In fact, every song on Wild Night Out! has more of the fabulous hard-driving sound that personifies Jimmy Thackery's music than do the mostly studio-recorded songs found on Essential Jimmy Thackery. The sound quality of Wild Night Out! is also excellent. You will think that you're sitting in a front row center seat of an outstanding Jimmy Thackery and The Driver's live concert. Wild Night Out! along with The Allman Brothers' Live at the Atlanta International Pop Festival are the two very best live rock blues or roadhouse blues cds that I own! Irregardless of how many times I've played it, Wild Night Out! never fails to impress me. I strongly recommend Wild Night Out! to you.
