Can wild things be free?,
By Lesbian Reader (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Wild One (Paperback)
Widow Rachel, struggling to raise her two kids alone, needs a hired hand for her landscaping business. Quinn, just out of prison, needs a job. Quinn likes her wildness and enjoy discomfiting Rachel, who enjoys Quinn's presence a little too much. This story would be almost cliche -- the general plot of lots of serial romances -- if it weren't for how Quinn's wildness is the very reason she is vulnerable to Rachel -- and Rachel's kids. It's Quinn, not Rachel, who is thrown for a loop by feelings she has for Rachel. Rachel, too, is an interesting character. This was my first Lyn Denison book and I'll be looking for more.

Yin and Yang Meet Again...,
By
This review is from: The Wild One (Paperback)
I truly believe every person has a soulmate - a yin to their yang - that completes them. Where one is weak, the other is strong - that person fills in our blanks, and gives us depth and dimensionality. Quinn Farrelly is Rachel Weston's soulmate, but neither knows it yet.
Rachel is a widow with two young children. She runs a successful landscape nursery and needs to hire more help. She also has a mother-in-law apartment for rent. Quinn has served time in prison. She has recently moved back to her hometown with her daughter to live with her brother's family. Quinn needs a job and a place to stay, but her wild reputation preceeds her in town. At a weekly gathering with her closest friends, Rachel discovers Quinn is back in town. She begins to think back on her high school feelings for Quinn, and is surprised to hear her friends think Quinn is a lesbian. As a whole, her friends and her mother do not approve of Quinn's return and are vocal about that fact. Rachel is scheduled to interview a candidate for the nursery position, and has mixed emotions when she finds Quinn in her office for the interview. After learning about Quinn's prior job experience, she is delighted to hire her. However, she's concerned about what everyone else will think. As the women begin working together and rekindle their friendship, Rachel offers her apartment to Quinn. The close proximity proves too much, allowing both women to overcome their fears regarding each other. Yes, the book is short, but it's a really good story and is well told in 172 pages. As with any good book, I wanted more, but this one was just right. The characters are likable and memorable. I hope Denison keeps entertaining us for years to come.

A feel good story,
By E. Jean Alston "I only review items I would s... (Richardson, tx United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)

There isn't much to add to what everyone else has said regarding the plot and charaters. However, the tension between Rachel and Quinn almost smolders off the page.
This was a very enjoyable story to read. One that I will hold on to for the next time I want to feel good. (As well as read some quality sex scenes.)

Not bad..too short,
By Janice (North Carolina, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Wild One (Paperback)
This novel wasn't bad. The plot was realistic and "normal-ish". It was too short though. It read like a long short story. I think the large font helped to stretch it to novel size but it's still a book you can read in a few hours.
I would have liked to know more of what was going on in Rachel's head. Also would have liked for the scenes not to either be at the landscaping business or the house. Or Rachel's thoughts to be either on the landscaping business or happenings at home. I think the author could have added some dimensions to the characters without losing where the focus was to be. I would read another novel by this author. I'd hope that the next one would be longer and with characters not so confined in either this thought arena or that one OR this scenery or that one.

Rachel needs help with her landscaping business after her husband's death.
Against the wishes of her friends and family, she hires Quinn. Everyone needs to start over and Quinn has great qualification. Let Denison walk you thru a heartwarming romance.

BIG read in a tiny package,
By "punkinbutt92981" (Iowa City, IA) - See all my reviews

This book is small but packs a great punch. I definitely did not want it to end. I don't think that there is a single bad thing I can say about it except for it did end. I was kind of hoping for more at the end, but aren't we all? If you are looking for a steamy read before bed, this one is it!
