Can't Wait For The Rest Of The Series...,
By H White (Southern CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The WILD ONE: ROSWELL HIGH 2 (Rosewell High , No 2) (Paperback)
I am 41 y/o and my 14 y/o daughter got me hooked on the series. I've read all 5 books and can't wait for Book 6 or more =) We've share these books with each other and with her fellow classmates - yeah High Schoolers who actually think 'reading' is 'cool' =) I suggest that more parents share a book or a series with their young people - its a great way to 'bond'. This series is excellent - food for thought & gives an 'inside' to teenage-life! Thanks!

A Wonderful Book,
By
This review is from: The Wild One (Roswell High No. 2) (Paperback)
I love this series. This book focuses on Isabel, and a new alien in town. The new alien is named Nicolas, and the others think he is someone who can't be trusted -- except Isabel. She seems to be drawn to his wild ways, and ignores the others' warnings to stay away from him. Nickolas is not afraid of using his powers whenever he chooses, and is not afraid of Sherriff Valenti, whom Isabel has a terrible fear of. In the end, Nickolas pays for his carelessness, but it leaves the others to clean up after him and with a greater danger than before -- but they may have a new ally as well...I thought this book was one of the best in the series. It explored some of the other couple's relationships, like the growing friendship between Michael and Maria, and the Victoria's Secret scene with Max and Liz was fabulous.

Can't wait to read #3!,

After just finishing book 1 of the series, I jumped into book 2 (The Wild One) which focuses on my personal favorite character, Isabel Evans. For those who watch the TV series, this book is like no episode the WB has ever done. In fact, this could be the perfect storyline to follow for their season finale. Another alien in Roswell? Is he the ONLY other one? Isabel Evans getting hot and heavy with someone besides Alex? If you want answers to all of this, I highly recommend this book! I can't wait to jump into the third one!

Pretty good...,

Isabel knows how important it is for Michael, Max and her to be careful with their alien powers. Sheriff Valenti and the other members of Project Clean Slate are always on the lookout for anything suspicious and the three aliens and their friends are in danger of being discovered. But Isabel has always felt as if she has been dragged down with all their worries and cautions. Then Nikolas arrives, and finally she meets some one who understands her. That fact that Nikolas is also an alien who is not afraid to use his powers only serves to draw Isabel to him even more. Nikolas accepts Isabel as she is and being around him makes her feel as if she were flying. However Max and the others don't share her views - they think Nikolas is trouble. After an incident involving Isabel and Nikolas that leads to Sheriff Valenti becoming suspicious confirms their fears, Isabel's friends attempt to make her see sense. But will Isabel realise the truth before the members of Project Clean Slate discover their secret? I thought this book was pretty good. It's the first I've read so far in this series so I can't tell you how it compares to the other books. There was some interesting character development, plenty of action and it was well written. The scenes between Michael and Maria are especially good as we see their friendship begin to deepen. The only fault I found was the informal way in which parts of the book are written, but this is only a minor point and I only mention it because it irritated me a little. Overall, I give this book four stars and recommend it to all Roswell High fans.

WILD,
By Sashie (CA, United States) - See all my reviews

I realy liked this, its only my second "Roswell High" book so I dont have much to compare it to but I enjoyed it a lot. Its mostly about Isabel, but sets the other charecters up for storylines in future books. It has you turning the pages until the very end wondering when Isabel is going to see sense and whats going to happen to her boyfriend. Their wild adventures are also somewhat page turning. The only downside of this book is that it seems to end in the middle introducing new plot lines and not explaining what happens. That comes in the next book, which I'm looking forward to becasue this one was so good, and I want to know what happens!

A Great Companion for the TV Show!,

Max, Isabel and Michael thought they were the only aliens on Earth... until a new boy shows up at school... Isabel has always been the type of girl that all the boys want and all the girls hate but secretly want to be. Isabel has also never had any problems getting boys to come to her - she has never had to chase after a boy in any sense of the word. That all changes the moment Nikolas shows up. Something about him is drawing her to him. Something about him screams trouble, but Isabel doesn't care or can't help but feel excited about it.Meanwhile, Max and Michael can feel that something is wrong when they start to feel surges of power being used. While they are not exactly sure who Nikolas is, they do know he is trouble. They also know that using their powers right now can bring Sheriff Valenti closer to them, much closer than before. Careful is key. But Isabel's obsession with Nikolas puts them all in danger, not just aliens, but humans alike. While dealing with Isabel's rebel behavior everyone is also dealing with their own dramas... The romance dramas! Max and Liz are love, but not together. For fear he will bring more trouble her way, Max has told Liz they are "just friends" many times, pushing her away, despite their obvious feelings towards each other. I personally get frustrated by this couple - they are clearly meant to be together and I just want to scream at them sometimes that they are both so blind! But that is what teenage love is right?! ((I feel this same way while watching the show - which I love!!)) Then there is Alex and Isabel. How cute are they!?! While Isabel is "obsessed" with Nikolas (there just isn't any other word for it) Alex is not exactly obsessed with Isabel but will do anything for her, and he knows it. While his jealousy does get the better part of him, he also knows that Nikolas is not good for her or the group. Loving the tv show so much I can't help but love this series so far. The writing is very simplistic but at the same time, Melinda Metz does a wonderful job of presenting teenagers just as they are: confused, energetic, yet hopeful human beings - in this case they happen to deal with Alien issues all the time. I love how each of the main characters (Max, Michael, Isabel, Liz, Maria and Max) each are given a point of view. If you love the tv show at all you must read these books!

Enjoyable,

Teen action, relationships, feelings, desires, self doubts all blend together to create a fast-moving and surprisingly enjoyable read. The only real difference between this and other teen novels is that some of the characters happen to be aliens--survivors of the Roswell UFO Crash, so the plot takes some unusual twists. Each main character is clearly defined, and portrayed in a believable and sympathetic manner. As a Roswell resident it is fun to pick out details that reflect the setting accurately and those that do not. I wonder if the author has ever visited Roswell. The ending is more like the beginning of the next chapter in a continuing story. The first book in the series worked better as a "stand alone" novel, but I don't suppose anyone reads them that way. -Lynn Michelsohn, author of Roswell, Your Travel Guide to the UFO Capital of the World!

Both of my daughters ***love*** this book!,
This review is from: The Wild One (Roswell High No. 2) (Paperback)
In fact, they each read this whole series in a short period of time. Conversations have been lively about plot lines and characters in our house. There was a t.v. series loosely based on this series of books, but my daughters will quickly tell you that the books are by far better than the show. Based on their reactions, I would highly recommend these books to any pre-teen/young teen girl.

Not as good as 1st in series but better than many of TV series episodes,

Set about a month after the events in Roswell High #1, "The Wild One" is about a mysterious new boy in town named Nikolas and the wild effect he seems to have on Isabel. While the TV series wasn't based on this book there is a similarity in that the gang gradually learns that there were four alien children that survived the 1947 crash, Nikolas is the fourth alien in this case and he doesn't like humans.I liked the first book better than this one, especially during the last part of the story (which is better than some of the TV episodes were). I think lots of hints are dropped about further stories in the series, the book seems a little bit choppy, fast paced. |
