A great start to a 4 part series,
By
This review is from: The Wild One: Secret Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
Absolutely amazing how 4 different authors could construct such a well-written, 4 part series that maintains continuity and quality! It's a credit to the authors Elaine Barbieri, Bobbi Smith, Constance O'Banyon, and Evelyn Rogers. "The Wild One" starts off the "Secret Fires" series with Tanner McBride returning home to Sidewinder Texas, at the request of his dying father, Tom McBride. The McBride Family had been split apart 4 years ago, after the father remarried 1 week after his wife's death. The scheming stepmother/wife, Clare, drove a wedge between the entire family - the 3 children fled the Circle M ranch & Tom McBride's tyrannical rule. Four years later, the McBride heirs are summonsed home. Tanner's story is unique and touching. He has grown up enough to realize that he must confront his past, his father and himself, before he can go forward. Callie has traveled to Sidewinder Texas with a different agenda in mind - she plans on killing Tanner. As the plot unravels, you become entrenched in the McBride family saga. This is a great start to an enjoyable 4 part series. Definitely read them in order: Enjoy!

Series romance with a twist,
By
This review is from: The Wild One: Secret Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
I’m sure you are familiar with the books that have 4 separate stories by 4 separate author. Leisure books has given a new twist to series romance. They have created a series of 4 books by 4 authors. The Wild One by Elaine Barbieri is this first in the series. The others are as follows: 2. The Half-Breed by Bobbi Smith, 3. The Agreement by Constance O’Banyon and the finial book is The Loaner by Evelyn Rogers. I came across this by accident. Bobbi Smith is an author that I have read in the past and picked up The Half-Breed. I noticed Secret Fires across the top and was curious as to what that was all about. In the back of the book it provided the answer to my questions. Now I have provided them to you. To review The Wild One don’t be misguided by my 3 star rating. I just finished reading several Lorraine Heath books that were amazing so The Wild One did not stand out as a 5 to me. Since this is the first in the series it focus’s a lot on the McBride family and what the basis of the story is. The development of Tanner and Callie just did not flow for me. I guess I expected more conflict than there was. Tanner was thought to have killed Callie’s brother. When Callie meets him for the first time there is chemistry but you would think she would be a little confused about her feeling for a man who she feels killed her brother. You do get to learn about the McBride family and what a ... Tom McBride (Father) is. You also learn about his wife Clare who is a conniving mean spirited woman and what she does to drive the family away. All in all it is a good book to read. You definitely need to read it before you read the other books so that you have a better understanding of the characters involved.

Another great read!,

Ms. Barbieri has done a great job in starting out a very interesting series of books. Callie is the perfect heroine, feisty but fragile, and Tanner brings new meaning to "strong, silent type." Their story is a classic, set within a larger story that promises to just get better and better. I have to recommend this one to all readers of romantic fiction.

This review is from: The Wild One: Secret Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
I have been a major of fan of Elaine Barbieri's fabulous romances since her very first book. This one has got to be her best ever, a true keeper. It's the first book in Leisure's "Secret Fires" series, and it packs a wallop. Tanner McBride is a hero you'll never forget, and Callie gets him in the end...but it's not easy. Partly because of the evil Clare, one of the wickedest characters I've come across in a book in ages. She's truly the woman you love to hate! Do yourself a favor and buy this book, then read the second book in the series, "The Half-Breed" by Bobbi Smith, and then "The Agreement" by Constance O'Banyon (which I've just finished). The last book will be "The Loner" by Evelyn Rogers. I can't wait for that. WOW--what a great idea. A four-book series by four fantastic authors. You get to read one huge story by four different talents. Unbelievable. Please, ladies, give us more!!!

I enjoyed every book in this series and this last one was no different. I ended up feeling like I knew and cared about these people. Now, I'm going to miss them. What amazed me was that 4 different authors could write a 4-book series so seamlessly. I rarely write reviews, but felt compelled this time. Don't read these book out of order. Start with The Wild One, then the Half Breed, the Agreement and lastly the Loner. I can't say enough - great reading and I'm picky.

Tanner! The Wild One!,

This review is from: The Wild One: Secret Fires (Mass Market Paperback)
I bought this book unaware that it was a first book in a series. (I didn't look in the back of the book). When the book ended I was lost, thank god a friend of mine who trades books with me just happened to have the second book. I went out an bought my own copy. I have read this one and the other three in the series twice now.
Tanner leaves his home after being disowned by his father, because of his stepmother. Years later he returns and meets and falls in love with Callie. Family secrets, a evil stepmother, and family conflict tear a family apart.

I really enjoyed this book. Both characters are so likeable! Tanner is a misunderstood man who was thorwn out of his house because his lying [...] of a step mother wanted him but he turned her down. He gets word that his father is dyng and comes home. Callie is a smart woman with a mysterious past. I understand why she wants revenge and I love how she falls in love with Tanner in spite of her mission. I can't wait to read the others in this series!

I am a working mother and don't have a lot of time to read. However, I am taking the time to return to something I love. What a wonderful book THE WILD ONE is. Tanner and Callie are wonderful creations and the story caught me right away. When I found out it was the first of the series, I quickly got all four books. I am so hooked on these four aughors, but Mrs. Barbieri is my favorite. I have just become her number one fan. I am now reading Hawk and loving it.

I am a huge fan of Ms. Barbieri. Tanner McBride is a wonderful hero who has everything a hero should have. Callie gets her man, but not so easily. And, there has never been a more evil woman than Clare--the woman you love to hate. I loved the book from start to finish. The story is exciting and kept me turning the pages. I understand that there will be three more books about the McBride family. I can't wait to read them all. Ms. Barbieri, you are the best!!!
