5.0 out of 5 stars A Personal Favorite
As a film, WILD ORCHID is only so-so; as a soundtrack, however, it is easily among the best of its decade, a brilliant collage of Latin American, alternative, hard rock, and elegant pop. It has long been one of my favorites, and if your taste runs to all of the above, it will like become one of yours as well.

The opening titles cut, the instrumental...

3.0 out of 5 stars OK...but where is that one song??
This soundtrack is ok, but where is the one, really incredible song that is playing while she is arriving in Rio? And what is it called? Having this song on the album would make it complete.

The opening titles cut, the instrumental "Paradise," is languid, sultry, sexy and features a flawless trumpet lead--but the treats have just begun: Maragreth Menezes' "Elejibo" and David Rudder's "Dark Secrets" set a high standard when it comes to sharp-edged, vigorious Latin sounds, and although the various cuts are very, very ecclectic in style each one is beautifully, flawlessly performed, all the way from Nasa's hard rocking but strangely spiritual "Magic Jeweled Limousine" to my own personal favorite, the darkly cynical "Promised Land" by Underworld.

This is truly an inexhaustible recording, always seductive, alternating high energy edges with introspection, every cut memorable. Strongly recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars Where Is That Song!?!?, December 29, 2004
This review is from: Wild Orchid: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
Why isn't the song where Carre Otis is arriving in Rio on the album? Thats the best song in the movie! Also, where is the song that is heard when Otis and Rourke go to that masquerade club!? The rest of the songs stink.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't judge a soundtrack by the movie, May 17, 1998

Yes, I know, this movie sucked. But, boy, did they get the music right!! This album has all the sultry tones that the movie *should* have had, but didn't. Overall, the sound is very South American, heavy on the drummy sounds and very mysterious sounding. A really fabulous CD.

All the music on the disk is the same that was in the movie, however the quality of the sound on the disk was not as clear as it was in the movie. I wish that itinerary on the CD was closer to the different scenes from the movie. The movie was a blockbuster which after viewing made me want the CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wild Orchid Music, January 22, 2009
This review is from: Wild Orchid: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This CD is a very appealing mix of international music. Although the movie was made in 1990, it doesn't sound at all dated. The love theme is beautiful and haunting and most of the other music is happy and upbeat.
