Strangely Edited,
This review is from: Wild Orchid 2: Blue Movie Blue (DVD)
I picked this up mostly because I'm a fan of Nina Siemaszko. I'd seen this film years ago on cable, and I assumed I'd seen the R-rated version. Apparently not, as this DVD is most definitely missing at least one major scene that I remember, and probably has other serious cuts as well.
Reviews here talk about a missing "full frontal" scene of Blue (Siemaszko). The scene I remembered was actually a little shy of "full" in that the character crossed her hands in front of herself when fully disrobed... a small, modest gesture that made perfect sense for the character. Surely, I thought, if there was more to the scene than that, I wouldn't miss it, so I ordered the DVD. But when the reviews here say the scene is missing, they mean the WHOLE SCENE... and it actually is a scene that plays an important part in setting up the characters of Blue and Elle (Wendy Hughes). If you've seen the unrated version, you're no doubt familiar with it. Blue is standing before Elle, and Elle tells Blue to take off her clothes. Blue ignores the request while Elle goes through a short monologue about "her girls." Finally Elle tires of Blue's disobedience and decides that Blue has changed her mind, and summons another woman to see her out. Blue says she hasn't changed her mind. A few more lines of dialog from Elle, and SNIP! The censor's scissors cut out the scene where Blue allows herself to be undressed by the other woman. The missing scene, while somewhat erotic, also establishes Elle's power and manipulation. The message is clear: Elle gets what she wants. Nobody says no to Elle. There are some other scenes that do have full frontal nudity intact, such as when Elle is looking for a body double for Blue later in the film and three women stand before her, fully disrobed. The scene that was cut was less explicit in content, but more important to the film. Okay, so it's not Citizen Kane. Still, it's annoying to see arbitrary chops like this in a film. Please, people, if you're going to bother transferring a movie to DVD, have the sense to leave it intact.

Saw this when it came out years ago; this DVD is an 'R' rated copy of an NC-17 movie... at at least three different points, this version deletes some very erotic material from the original. Now, this could be on regular broadcast TV. Save your money, especially if you're thinking of buying it because you think you KNOW what's supposed to be there. It ain't.

I love the erotic feel of the lighting , colors, and especially the music. (How about a soundtrack release?). One full frontal nudity scene of Blue is cut from this DVD, it's on the unrated VHS.

Tragic Zalman King erotica,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wild Orchid 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Zalman King follows up the sizzling Wild Orchid with a sequel that is not a sequel, it's about completely different characters in a different setting. But that's OK, I guess it's a sequel of subject matter, in the same way he produces his Red Shoe Diaries series. And this movie does succeed as a tale about misbegotten lovers trapped in a mire of loss and sexual confusion.I didn't appreciate the attractive Nina Siemaszko (who later appeared in a Red Shoe Diaries episode) the first time I saw her in the role of the tragic heroine of this story. She kind of disappointed after Carre Otis, but you do sympathize with her situation. She and her dad are smalltown southern people. They are very close, then he dies and she is left penniless and without any skills. Enter the madam of the bordello played by Wendy Hughes. She offers Nina a chance at riches and sexual liberation by becoming one of her girls. Nina reluctantly accepts. She is introduced to a world of sexual deviancy that is not without its victims, as there are girls who try to leave this life and are punished. She plays two roles to one of her young clients, that of mysterious and seductive prostitute, and that of sweet young girl who has fallen in love with him. That he can't tell it's the same person is ludicrous, but it's for the sake of the story. Naturally, family disapproval and heartache follows. I appreciated Nina Siemaszko more eight or so years after seeing this movie the first time. The unrated version does show a bit more flesh, but is not necessary to appreciate the story.

Very miss leading title, has nothing to do with Wild Orchid, which was a fantastic movie. I found it disappointing.

I Had My Doubts But . . . .,

When I first heard of this movie, I had my reservations seeing that I had really liked '9 1/2 Weeks' and 'Wild Orchid'. Unfortunately, I had read the reviews before looking at the movie myself.
And now, 14 years after the film was released in the theaters, I've finally had the chance to purchase the DVD and view it for myself. And I have to concede. This film is not bad, at all! And believe me, over the years, I have truly seen some very horrible movies (*- see below)! But 'Wild Orchid 2: Blue Movie Blue' faired pretty well on it's own. There are some good performances despite the story not going too into depth with the characters. Nina Siemaszko gave a pretty good performance as 'Blue McDonald', a teenage girl who unfortunately becomes a prostitute in the brothel of a madam, played by Wendy Hughes, to pay off a few unpaid debts. Another performance which I thought was entirely much better than the acting in the movie was by Robert Davi, who played 'Sully'. Davi's character ends up being Blue's 'saving grace' and pulls her from falling into that way of life before she could lose herself. He helps her become the girl she were before her musician father (Tom Skerritt) met his unfortunate demise. There is a cute but short perfomance by Brent Fraser who plays Josh, an 'All American' high school boy who captures Blue's heart from the first moment they meet. Then there are the familar faces like Christopher McDonald, Casey Sanders (Grace Under Fire) and even a peek at Gloria Reuben before her 'E.R.' days. You have to watch it at least twice to catch her in action. There should be no need to compare 'Wild Orchid 2' to '9 1/2 Weeks' and 'Wild Orchid' because the story is set in a different time and place and there is absolutely no mention of the characters from the prior movies in this the film. And I would never ever compare it to the horrible so-called 'sequel' that came out a few years ago to '9 1/2'! The cable movie was so horrible and hard on the eyes that I can't even remember the name of it because I only was able to sit through the retched thing only once! 'Wild Orchid 2: Blue Movie Blue' was tastefully done and is definitely a 'worth see' to fans of the prior two movies.

It is a Zalman King production-beautiful bodies, grat sets, and little plot. This movie is especially silly and not that erotic. Save your money.
