Editorial Review

Heads up, future spies of the world! Here is your first step on the road to super-spy status: the ultimate in high-tech secret communication. Two headset LCD displays and two mini keyboard transmitters (with adjustable wrist straps) allow users to send text messages up to 200 feet and through walls. Just put on the headset, aligning the eye piece so that you can see the tiny screen, type the message on the communicator keypad (up to 22 characters at once), send to your fellow agent, and wait for a reply. How will you know when a reply is coming? A red light will flash in the eyepiece and the message will scroll across your screen. Good-bye, walkie-talkies; hello, eye-link communicators! (Six AAA batteries required--not included.) --Emilie Coulter

Product Description

This is WAY COOL! The Eye-Link Communicator is the ultimate gear for astronaut communication. You can silently communicate to other members of your crew up to 200 feet -- even through walls! Using a QWERTY keypad mounted on your arm or wrist, you can type and beam a message to a crewmates headset. The message is viewed on a scrolling LCD screen. You can send up to 23 characters (including spaces) per message. Kids have the option of sending messages across one public channel, or nine private channels, so they can communicate with an entire crew. They can also set their system to automatically tag each of their messages with their chosen two-character identification code to identify the sender, when playing in multi-player mode. NASA is developing similar "helmet mounted" display systems to display data messages to astronauts in their spacesuits. The Eye-Link Communicator is great for simulated space missions at home or in the classroom and provides a fun demonstration of space-age communication technology. This comes as a set of two. The set requires two 9-volt batteries not included. Recommended for ages 6 and up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye- Link-Communicators!, November 25, 2003
A Kid's Review
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Eye Link Communicators (Toy)
If you ever need to talk to your friends or just anyone in secret, this is the one spy gadget you'll need!
A mini keyboard with a head set that has an adjustable wrist band. And theres also the part that covers one of your eyes so no one else can see it but you!
Communicates up to 200 Ft. even through walls! and when your done typing your message all you have to do is push SEND, and the message will appear in the other persons headset. And just so you know when another person's sending a message there will be a flashing red light!
keyboard isn't like the typing keyboard for the computer it's in order from the alphabet, (A B C etc.)
Pack comes with two headsets, and is a great toy for kids who have a wonderful imagination or for just about anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally A Walkie Talkie My Deaf Child Can Enjoy!!!!, December 1, 2003
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Eye Link Communicators (Toy)
Thank You!!!! Whoever thought of this toy!! My son is 12 and profoundly deaf.It is soooo hard to find toys and games for him because all anyone seems to make these days are toys that makes sounds that you need to hear to be able to play them. Also deaf children, have problems with reading,as they have never heard the sounds of the letters and it is very hard to put them together to make sense....imagine yourself reading Chinese or Russian, ect.
My son is finally reading at a good level now.

But,so many games require reading too. It's very hard for the parent of a deaf child to find anything for birthdays or Christmas.
For years,my older son has had walkie talkies and played with them with his friends while his little brother stood there looking longingly, wanting to play with them too.
Now ,he can!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
You have made a child (and his parents!) VERY happy!
PLEASE,continue making more toys like this!

This review is from: Eye Link Communicators (Toy)
My 7 year old son and I were in a store where they had a demo set up of the eye link communicators. I thought they were super cool my 7 year old not so. It turns out the reason was two fold. First off most 7 year olds are not great spellers and secondly they are not great typers. I figured that's the perfect reason to get them. It reinforces where the letters are on a keyboard and will help with the spelling. So I went out and got it for the holidays anyhow. Well in the 2 months since we saw them his spelling has improved greatly and he was ready to step up to the challenge. We played with them and they worked well. Set up for an adult as well as a child was easy and learning to adjust the eyepiece so it looks like its "floating" took very little practice. A few times we needed to "reset' one of the communicators but it's just a push of a button with a small point (pen or paperclip will do nicely). The few "problems" we had were clearly explained as sometimes the normal operation and would dissipate within a few minutes (and it did). The one thing you have to get used to is the eye piece will go black if not used for a while but this does not mean it has shut off. As soon as someone sends you a message or you type a message it will turn back on. I kept restarting when in fact I didn't have to. It also means that you must manually shut off each communicator if you are going to conserve the batteries (3 triple A's for each communicator). Fun, way cool looking and educational-can it get any better. Yes it can. They are not flimsy by any stretch of the imagination however; they still need to be handled with delicacy. If you accidentally pull the wire it can break. These are not the type of toy that can be left on a floor and stepped over (or on). They are just too delicate for that but normal wear and tear from the average kid should be fine. A little gentle reminder every so often should go a long way in preserving these for a while. If your child is spy crazy like mine these are a must have.
