5.0 out of 5 stars Fun for adults too
This would be a great buy, as it is tons of fun for both you and your child. You can hear whispers from across the room, and the headphones make it so only you can hear. The trigger is a little strange to get used to, as you have to point the gun-type device at what you are trying to hear, and click the trigger. All in all, it is a fun toy for all ages.

2.0 out of 5 stars It was okay
This dumb toy is not what I thought it would be, it barely enhances the sound at all and it has a fuzzy ring to it that gets annoying. You cannot hear through walls, doors, or glass. It was not a toy I would recommend to anyone.

I bought two of these - one for a 10-year old nephew, the other a six-year old nephew. Both loved it and play with it often, when they can get it away from their dad, who has just as much fun with it! I've heard that they have used this to "hear loud" when mom has told them to turn down the TV. They've eavesdropped on older siblings and cousins, and thought they were super spies. Now my brother-in-law wants to buy another to give to a deer hunting relative. Great product, and a big hit at Christmas.

This toy is great fun! Tough to store with the "Dish Shield". But can be used without it. The shield just helps to block out background noise. But if used in a quiet area...........no TV, radio, or Cd playing...........it works just as well! Have had a lot of fun with this! Listening to birds in tthe backyard, as well as my little 9 yr old spy, listening to his brother behind closed doors. Hey it even proved to work when given to his "Hard of hearing grandfather! He really had fun then! Very versatile toy,

My son has had this toy for a while and he still really likes it, and it hasn't broken yet. Right there are two really good reasons to get this toy. He is 7, and this is lots of fun for him to play with and be a "spy" especially after seeing Spykids. This is a good deal, especially for those who are scientifically inclined.

4.0 out of 5 stars open up the imagination, December 17, 2002

My son (9) asked for this last year for Christmas. It looked a little flimsy, but what the heck. He has used it for things I never would have imagined. Forget spying on people, he listens in on the birds at the bird feeder. He hauled it with to Yellowstone, then stood in the downwind spray of a geyser and got to hear the water roaring out of the hole. All the parents and kids around us kept asking where they could pick one up. The plastic sound collector cone has cracked, but we taped it back together and it still works fine. When we're low on batteries, it looks a lot like a laser gun so he pretends to be in Star Wars with it. In short, much more fun and imagination invoking than I ever thought it would be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, but only when you're trying to hear through a wall, August 15, 2005
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Supersonic Ear (Toy)
I bought this toy a couple years ago, and I keep it in the same place that I keep all my Wild Planet stuff. It works pretty well if you only want to use it to hear through windows and walls with the microphone, but if you're trying to hear far away there's a website called www.gadgetuniverse.com that, if you go to the spy section, has a nifty device that lets you hear, see, and record sounds and things up to 300 feet away! Overall, it's good if you need to hear through a door or if you want a stethoscope that's more powerful than most, but if you want to hear far away the other device I mentioned works much better and (in case you were wondering) costs 50 bucks. Cool!

The toy works well - My boys enjoy all the Wild Planet toys we've bought. But more importantly I want to say what a pleasure the company has been to deal with. After someone stepped on the bell for the Supersonic ear and cracked it in half, I called the manufacturer, they were responsive, helpful and sent a replacement part at no cost! We've gone on to buy 3 -4 more of there toys - We highly recommend them, on both grounds!

I gave this toy to me son who turned 7, he plays with it all the time. The sound quality is excellent. He likes going outside to listen to the owls, we live next to woods. Sounds like there right on your shoulder. Pretty cool! very durable and excellent buy for the price.

Our six-year old really got a kick out of this toy, and it obviously sparked interest about the science of sound -- he asked lots of rewardingly education-rich questions while messing around with it. We parents shared a secret giggle as he perched in the backyard playhouse-on-stilts and focused it on our...neighbor's bedroom window. It's pretty powerful, but I don't think he picked up any startling revelations from his attempted eavesdropping. We did talk to him about invasions of privacy, etc., which seems necessary with such a toy. And, sadly, his two-year old brother broke it after only a month. The plastic dish is pretty fragile.
