Three Levels of Creativity
The Crayola Crayon Town Construction Set puts a new creative spin on crayons, offering several levels of play to inspire your child's imagination.

Color: Crayon Town lets kids create a three-dimensional paper world for the figurines. It includes two oversized coloring mats depicting construction scenes. Each mat is double-sided for twice the coloring fun. The "Fold & Build" office, skyscraper, and tool shed are diorama-style paper cut-outs that can be colored, then folded to stand up on the coloring mats.

Build: The Crayon Town Construction Set features construction "equipment," such as road signs and barricades, that can be constructed using crayons. Together with two construction worker toys, a dump truck, and a cement mixer, these props help complete the construction scene.

Play: Children enjoy playing pretend with dolls and figurines, and this play set offers them just one more outlet for imaginary play. Children can play "construction" with the two construction worker figures, their vehicles, and all of the included construction props, right in the scene that they built and colored themselves.

Easily Renewable for Long-Lasting Fun
Parents will appreciate that the play set engages children in different types of activities to inspire their creativity. Our preschool-age toy tester especially enjoyed figuring out how to use the crayons to "build" the components, and she was occupied for a long period engaging in imaginary play with the figures.

At first glance, this toy set may seem too temporary; we know how quickly crayons get used up and broken, and we wish that the coloring mats were somehow reusable. That said, this set can be used with any crayons, which are easily replaceable, and Crayola makes additional coloring mats available for free download from crayon-town.com, so children can create their construction scenes over and over again.

What a neat idea! My son (just turned three) has had so much fun with it. We especially like the color-fold-build structures. Comes with crayons, cars and a play mat to set everything up. We literally sat down and played with this for over an hour when it first arrived. True, you can only color the buildings once, but my son has enjoyed playing with the mat and vehicles several times. Overall, a really creative, fun kit!

I'm sending a set or two of these Crayon Town toys to a friend for kids in their family. We're always looking for creative toys that are wholesome and engaging, and these are. Who doesn't love crayons? With these toys, kids color, build, and play with crayons not only as coloring utensils, but also as animal parts (attaching molded heads and tails), and street signs, etc. The pre-cut artwork is colored and then folded into fire stations, houses, etc. And more art is available for free from the Wild Planet website. It's nice that Wild Planet didn't cheap out, but instead is including genuine Crayola crayons.

I was lucky enough to snag this item when it was only $4.00 (here on Amazon), and it was definitely worth that price. I don't know if I'd pay much more. I bought this as a gift for a three-year-old construction fanatic, and he and his older sister both enjoyed this for about two hours. They were completely absorbed into coloring it and playing with the trucks. In fact, I have scarcely seen them enjoy a toy more. They have not, however, taken it out of the closet since, despite the fact that there are still three other pages to color. (The set comes with two two-sided mats, meaning that you get two copies each of two different scenes.)

I recommend this product for anyone who can provide some floor or table space, and needs to keep children occupied for a couple of hours. (They may need a little help understanding what goes where, and putting the set together after they have the buildings colored.) Just don't expect much long-term value from the toy.
