This playset offers a new and unique approach to playing with crayons. View larger.
Kids can use their crayons to color three-dimensional zoo scenes or build park animals. View larger.
Build: The Crayon Town Zoo includes several plastic animal figures that can be constructed using crayons. Connect the animals' heads to their bodies using the eight included crayons to make a whimsical, long-bodied lion, alligator, polar bear, and a long-necked giraffe. The monkey's hands are shaped to hold onto the crayon "trunk" of the included toy tree. With the exception of the giraffe, the animal figures can also be used without the crayon extensions.
Color: Crayon Town lets kids create a three-dimensional paper world for the figurines. It includes two oversized coloring mats depicting zoo scenes. Each mat is double-sided for twice the coloring fun. The "Fold & Build" polar bear cave, lion's den, and monkey tree are diorama-style paper cut-outs that can be colored, then folded to stand up on the coloring mats.
Play: Children enjoy playing pretend with dolls and figurines, and this play set offers them another outlet for imaginary play. Children can play "zoo" with the zookeeper figure, his car and attached wagon (the wheels really move), and all of the included animals in the scene that they built and colored themselves.
Easily Renewable for Long-Lasting Fun
Parents will appreciate that the play set engages children in different types of activities to inspire their creativity. Our preschool-age toy tester especially enjoyed figuring out how to use the crayons to "build" the animals and other zoo components, and she was occupied for a long period engaging in imaginary play with the figures.
At first glance, this toy set may seem too temporary; we know how quickly crayons get used up and broken, and we wish that the coloring mats were somehow reusable. That said, this set can be used with any crayons, which are easily replaceable, and Crayola makes additional coloring mats available for free download from www.crayon-town.com, so children can create their zoo scenes over and over again.

The "mat" (should not be called that, as it's just thin paper) was rolled up tight, and could not be made to lay flat, no matter how I rolled it backwards. Read morePublished on February 9, 2011 by Jill Asman
