As one reviewer mentioned, this item is small. I hadn't read the dimensions and had pictured it bigger; however, that doesn't diminish the fun -- and it makes it easier to hide! If you understand what you are purchasing, you shouldn't be disappointed. My just-turned-4-year-old doesn't grasp the meaning of the colors and beeps on the treasure map, which change color and beep faster as you approach the hidden treasure. My 6-year-old, though, has been having a blast with this toy. I think it is best suited to the 6- to 8-year age group. If you have children in this age range who can work together cooperatively (take turns hiding and seeking the treasure), I would definitely recommend this.

I always read the ratings, but this is the first one I have written. We purchased this game for our 2 boys, ages 6 and 4, for Christmas. We thought it would be something that would interest 2 VERY active boys. Boy were we right! This is the best game/activity we have ever purchased for them. They love taking turns with one holding the map while the other hides the treasure (and taking turns is not something that we have had alot of success with in the past!) They have really worked together and have been great about not fighting over who gets to do what since each person has a part. I have never seen them work together like this! We will be having ANOTHER Pirate theme birthday party soon and I anticipate this being a huge success for a treasure hunt game! I cannot recommend this item enough and the price of this, as well as all other toys by Wild Planet, is so reasonable that I just went to the Wild Planet website and ordered the "Pirate Bomb" game!

This toy is nothing short of fantastic! I bought this for my son (A 4 Year old Pirate in Training)a few months ago and from the minute we put the batteries in, it's been the toy of choice at our house. The Pirate's Life Treasure Hunter consists of a small (small enough for a child to easily carry in their small hands) treasure chest which inside reveals a little plastic clear box which I will put a plastic gold coin in for my son and his friends to find once they locate the chest that I've hidden. It also comes with a small electronic "treasure map" which the child holds onto to while searching for the chest. There are little lights on the treasure map which indicate if you are hot (red) or cold (blue) or getting warmer (orange)as you roam the house looking for the hidden treasure chest. The game couldn't be more simple and any child who can understand directions can play this game which is your basic "Hide and Seek" format. You will delight with glee when you see your childs face light up with smiles galore when they not only locate the treasure chest but when they also find whatever little trinket you hide inside. Trust me Matey, you will never run out of hiding places. This toy is a MUST buy for all your Pirates and Pirate Princesses!

Make sure you look at the dimensions on this game before purchasing it - it is very small. It is not meant to put things in, it is mearly a transmitter designed to look like a treasure chest.

This is a lot of fun, I like hiding the treasure chest upstairs and then having someone go find it. Very cool!

I bought this for my grandson for Christmas and it has turned out to be the gift he and his brother still play with! Everyone loves a treasure hunt and this is easy enough for all ages to do. My grandson is 5 and his brother is 3 and they have a ball. Even when all the grandkids get together (ages from 10 down) they argue who is going to use the find it box!

This toy is a really cool version of the game "getting warmer..." On Christmas morning, I hid one half and let my son open the other, so he had to go find it to see what he had received. He loved the toy and enjoys playing with it. One time he put the lid on incorrectly and it took quite a bit of effort for us to get it unstuck, but all in all, it's a great toy.

Our 5 yr. old daughter loves anything with pirates so when we saw this we thought it would be perfect! When she first started playing with it, she was thrilled. You put the base of the treasure chest in a "hiding spot" and use the top as the "map" to find the treasure. As you get closer to the treasure the "X" on the map blinks from blue (cold) to yellow (warmer) to red (hot) and beeps wildly. Our whole family has had a great time playing with the Treasure Hunter. Well worth the money and easy to bring to Grammy's house too!

Great toy! My 6 and 9 year old love it. As other reviews say it is much smaller than we expected. One problem is that the top and bottom half got jammed together where we could not open it. I finally figured out a work aorund to open it if it gets jamed or locked together. Put a very small computer size flat head screw driver in the lock area crack between the two half and push in. This did the trick to open it.

Our grandson and his friends searched for the treasure chest for HOURS yesterday, giving the adults the first uninterrupted Super Bowl in a long time. And we even got into the act during half time. I can't wait until Spring to try this outdoors!
