My son really wanted some Skeleflex toys for his birthday. He received two. This one (Octoattack) and the stegosaurus one. Both them had vertebrae parts that broke during the initial building. He wasn't being rough or anything; he was just putting them together. The little balls that go into the socket are just too fragile. The toy is advertised something you can take apart and build in different ways by combining with other sets. We figure if you do that often, you'll end up a bunch of broken pieces.

They imply the joints are flexible, but you get only 4 ball/socket pieces that are flexible. It's your choice where to use them. We used them to replace the broken vertebrae parts from the two models.

Considering it's too risky to take apart and build in different ways, I'm giving it 3 stars for fun. I really don't see much education value at all. And the poor durability lowers the overall rating to 1 star.

My 7 yr old has several of the Skeleflex Dinos and Aliens. A few of them he's had trouble getting the ball joints into the sockets, but no problem for the parent. Have not had ANY issues with breakage of parts. Once the parts have been snapped in and out a few times, it's easier for 7 yr old to build himself. He's spent many hours creating new combinations of alien/dino creations. He says this is 5 stars all the way...and mom is happy it doesn't need batteries or makes noise! :)

This is amazingly creative, I have mixed and matched to make my own creations. Building them is half the fun. No broken pieces yet, this is a great product.
