5.0 out of 5 stars Great toy for your spy to be!
I wish this thing would break but it is built too well. I have been ambushed so many times I have become shell shocked; when I hear the alarm go off I know a couple of missiles are headed my way. My son loves the toy and keeps thinking of new ways to use it. I am planning to order more sets to give to my nephews as Christmas gifts.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice toy, but the interestingness wears off quick.
We bought this for my son (age 10 at the time) for Christmas because he loves the concept of spy gadgets. I asked him how educational they were and he gave them a 4, he said "you have to think carefully where people will be walking and aim them just right". We had these things peeping and shooting little harmless plastic missiles at us for a week or so, but after a month...

We bought this for my son (age 10 at the time) for Christmas because he loves the concept of spy gadgets. I asked him how educational they were and he gave them a 4, he said "you have to think carefully where people will be walking and aim them just right". We had these things peeping and shooting little harmless plastic missiles at us for a week or so, but after a month the components were abandoned in the toy box. Unless you have a very organized child with a neat room who has an ongoing need to be alerted when sneaky siblings are about, the interest level is going to fall off real quick.

The price has come down, they're now around $9 or $10, I'd recommend them at that price, they do provide at least ten bucks worth of fun. I paid more, and probably could have spent the money better.

This is a system designed to "protect" something (an object or a room) through a series of lights, sounds and then darts. It can be configured in different ways. My 6 y.o. has fun with it, but an older child (8-12) would probably be better at correctly setting it up to really work. The darts do shoot kind of hard so be aware of that.

2.0 out of 5 stars ok., April 15, 2009

if you're getting it for a kiddo who want's to set up an alarm on their room, it's great. well designed, a lil touchy on the response but great for the money. if you're going to hack it or use it for other purposes, read on.

the description is a little unclear. it's actually a three part system, relying on three IR motion sensors. part A will sound an alarm and klaxon, and "arm" parts B and C which will either shoot darts or sound another klaxon if they detect motion. B and C are independent of each other, but will not function until A has gone off.

it works just fine, but isn't that loud, and is not a "laser trip wire" although it does have a laser diode for aiming the part b motion sensor.

it's pretty durable, the kittens have knocked it off the dining room table several times, so it's task of keeping them off it failed, but it still works, and is very hackable as its entirely assembled with screws. it's a pretty tight circuit board, and not too immediately hackable, but the ir sensors dart mechanism and the like along with the stable aimable enclosures make it worth the price. it'll be rebuilt using the parts and enclosures with a squirt gun and all three independent with louder alarms.

What a neat idea! Spy Gear has some great ideas, the room alarm being one of them. However, the room alarm seems to work sporadically. Sometimes it does what it's supposed to do, other times it does not. My son loves to try to catch us with the alarm. I wish the motion sensor worked a little better so that it could pick you up from a further distance. I thought the alarm worked good enough to not send it back. (Like I did with the Spy Car I purchased with the Spy Alarm for my son's birthday.)

This is very cool. I am surprised they no longer make them. Kids are having a blast setting up remote traps all over the house.

1.0 out of 5 stars poorly made, dart shooter stopped working, January 1, 2009

The dart shooter on this piece of crap stopped working five minutes after the kid started playing with it. he had five minutes of real joy and then suddenly couldn't get the darts to lock into the shooter at all. then tears for god knows how long. I always want to throttle the makers of cheap crap like this.
