Morten Harket, not just a pretty face.....,
By A Customer
This review is from: Wild Seed (Audio CD)
The last two A-ha albums broke their "girlie pop idols" mould, and gave anyone who was still listening a taste of what they could really do. And then they split up. The A-ha songwriter Waakatar released an album under the guise of Sayoy. Not a bad effort in itself, but it lacked any real character and direction. So that's the end of the A-ha story...... Well belive it or not, but the lead singer Morten "Girlie Magnet" Harket has managed to keep the attention of any fans left still interested. How? By releasing one of the most underrated albums of the year. "Wild Seed" is an aural rollocoster of Morten's darkest corners. Still present is "The Voice" and the unusual topic choice, but this time it is matched with some wicked songwriting, catchy tunes and an excellent production. Anyone genuinely interested in discovering good music would find it difficult to listen to this album with an unbiased ear and remain uninterested.

This guy continues to amaze and surprise, especiallywith this mid 90's collection. Harket paints his melancholy canvas with soul searching, at times mellow but always inpired writing and arranging. This one took me many repeated listenings to pull out individual standouts, not a bad thing, I will be listening to this one for years to come. I like this cd as a whole, he's a mesmerising vocalist and continues to mature his craft. Listening to the new A-ha Cds I can hear so much of this new direction Harket aims for here on "Wild Seed". I hope he makes more solo releases in the future. My favorite cuts "Brodsky Tune", "Spanish Steps", the beautiful prayer,"Lay me down tonight", "Ready to go home", "A kind of Christmas Card", "Tell me what you see", "Los Angles". This is a must have for any A-ha fans, pricey and not so easy to find but well worth the discovery. Harket is one of the best vocalist to come out of the last several decades. Nothing phoney about this guy, he IS a SINGER.

Morten Harket wild seed,

I'm a big fan of A Ha since '85 "Hunting High and Low." Their big commercial hit "Take on Me" is not even a real taste of their music. I was so into the other songs on the album that I bought every album they ever produced. I don't know what it is, but Morten Harket voice is so unique I just wanted to hear more and more. When I found this CD on Amazon I gave it a try. This CD "Wild Seed" is just what I was looking for. He has not missed a beat. He is still amazing. You won't be disappointed. Give it a try...

After spending quite some time debating whether or not to pay more than normal for this CD, I finally bit the bullet and did it. As a fan of a-ha since I was 10 years old, I was afraid of the unknown - that being Morten writing his own music. But I can honestly say I love this CD.True, after only a day of listening to it (non-stop, of course), it isn't yet as familiar to me as the former a-ha discs, but it will be. Morten's voice is simply amazing. It reaches far beyond just my ears, at times, it seems to invade my soul. I literally never tire of listening to him, no matter what he's singing. And it's great to hear him sing songs he's had a hand in creating, whether the words, music, or both. With any luck, the reunited a-ha will be as wonderful as they once were, and Morten will continue to express himself with his own music, not just sing along to someone else's words. Because when he puts his all into it, something almost painfully beautiful is created, and the world is better for it.

A-ha may have been on hiatus but their lead singer hasn't,

Morten Harket's voice is one of music's most distinctive. Most people thought A-ha fell off the planet after their second album Scoundrel Days, but they didn't - only in North America. After three more albums (two of which were awesome) the band took a "break". Each member did their own thing, with Harket putting out a few albums in Norwegian before releasing this masterpiece. It is more mature fare than the catchy pop music from the early years but his voice remains the same - AMAZING. After listening to this album and some of Pal Waaktaar-Savoy's other work with Savoy, you can see where a-ha amazing comeback album Minor Earth, Major Sky came from! This album is a must for any a-ha fan!!!

Here in the U.S., we had two hits from A-Ha and never heard from them again, sadly. Thanks to the internet, I have all their albums and had to get this one. I wasn't disappointed, it's a brilliant choice. I'm madly in love with this man's voice. No matter what he sings, it's like a warming shower on a cold winter morning. Every song should be so lucky as to be sung by him and the world is truly blessed to have a solo album by him.

Could have been "The Best Of Morten Harket" this one!,

A masterpiece! And no less, belongs in every home and in every cd-collection - beautiful and moving ballads, some perfect compositions (Half in love, half in hate and Spanish steps could not have been better) - I personally find the last song on the album best, the cover of Ready To Go Home - as made for the voice of Harket - the opening with Kind Of Christmas Card is quite rememberable too I think - the best I've heard from Harket since East Of The Sun... with A-ha. Highly recommended for true music lovers.

Having bought this album whilst on holiday in Norway, at a fantastic price, I was so grateful that I had finally found it. I loved a-ha in the eighties, but Morten's style on this album is so non-a-ha. The songs are beatifully worded and extremely moving, and sung by a guy who in my opinion has one of the best voices of our time. I feel this album is very understated and would reccomend it to any one. It has moodiness and emotion in all the songs. My favourites are the haunting rendition of spainish steps and ready to go home, which move me every time. I didn't know what to expect when I heard the album for the first time but now it is in my collection as one of my all time favourites.

Norwegian Pop Icon Performs Solo,

With the release of A-ha's first album, 'Hunting High And Low' back in '85 lead vocalist Morten Harket displayed one of the most amazing male voices on the contemporary world scene. While A-ha's popularity remained high in Europe in the years to follow, it was only their first album that made a dent in the American musical consciousness.
Morten's obscure solo effort 'Wild Seed' was recorded in Gernamy in '95 and is available only as a very expensive CD import. Containing -12 original tracks- (words by Havard Rem and music by Morten Harket), we discover a very mature, mellow Morten who has seen and done it all while remaining true to his music and to himself. His voice is a little deeper now with a slight, raspy tone emerging now and then. I doubt if he could still hit that high note like he could in the '80's, but he really doesn't need to. If he has lost something in his vocals he more than makes up for it in his heartfelt emotional delivery of each and every song. For Morten there's definitely a life in music to be had after A-ha. I hope he pursues it. My Highest Recommendation!

When I buy a CD, its usually for only one or two songs. I can say with conviction that I love EVERY song on this album. That is a rare thing. Songs like Spanish Steps and Los Angeles are the real jewels of this amazing CD.
