Shake this tree!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Wild Thornberrys Movie (Audio CD)
I had previously heard very little about the Wild Thornberrys, but when I saw the tracklisting for this particular soundtrack, I knew it was a must-have. Unlike far too many soundtracks which often have one or two memorable songs, this one has at least a good handful. Paul Simon starts it off with "Father and Daughter", his first soundtrack contribution in almost a decade. The remix of Peter Gabriel's "Shaking the Tree" is decent, though not as good as the original or even the 1997 remix from the film Jungle 2 Jungle. Wes' "Awa Awa" is a touching African tune which would fit right in The Lion King. Also appearing on this diverse soundtrack are new songs featuring artists such as P. Diddy, Sting, and the Baha Men. My favorite track by far is Peter Gabriel's "Animal Nation", a fascinating, atmospheric song inspired by Gabriel's studies of bonobo apes and their intelligence. Though I have yet to see the film, I highly recommend this soundtrack, as it is easily one of 2002's best.

Put These on the Radio Please?,

This review is from: The Wild Thornberrys Movie (Audio CD)
I listen to this sequence 1,2,7,8,9,12 and 14; and repeat it because this is by far some of the best music from 2002 we can listen to forever.2003 Still kickin it up! Buy this disc and have a happy day. It's sort of a King Sunny Ade' feel with cool vocals and rhythms and bass. Oh, by-the-way, the rest of the cd is hip too. And Sting is un-mistakable, Paul Simon is Me and Hulio meets Graceland. Dave Mathews' acoutic style will have you wanting more; and by-far the best Reel Big Fish, ska tune and the Baja Men are killer on Accident. Awa Awa by Wes is true to heart and the Pretenders tune is a surprise and more! Buy this soundtrack and call your local dj to play this on the radio.

Great for the whole family!,

I have a 4-year old son who fell in love with the Thornberry's when this film came out. One of the problems that I have with most kid films is that the music is less than desireable. I went to see this film, ready to be just as annoyed as with the others.Nice to hear how wrong I was. I loved the film and I loved the soundtrack just as much, if not more. The list of artists for this project is amazing: Peter Gabriel, Sting, Dave Matthews, Paul Simon, and Rusted Root just to name a few. the whole album is well produced, not one of those typical crappy "look we have kids singing kids songs and they're sooooo cute!" ugh. My son and I have spent hours listening to this cd in the car, wherever we go. The Peter Gabriel tune, "Animal Nation" is one of the best songs he's put together in over 10 years. A real treat for sure. The music producers put together a smart list of artists who put out some smart, original pieces for this film. I love this compilation and I heartily recommend it to all. Pick it up, you won't be disappointed.

Outstanding Music for Kids.,

This review is from: The Wild Thornberrys Movie (Audio CD)
Good movie, great soundtrack. I write this following the third week or so that my 2 1/2 year old daughter and I have listened to songs 14, 1, & 2 in sequence at least once a day. Think World Cafe or Putamayo Music Hour for kids. It's a very ecclectic mix of styles and artists, highlighted by one of Paul Simon's strongest efforts. Roll down the windows, feel the breeze, and sing along w/ your kids.

This is the best soundtrack ever!I only bought it for Paul Simon's Father and Daughter but then I heard the dutch duo Sita sing "Happy" it has to be the best song ever! Don't worry it's in English she sings songs in both English and Dutch. Both versions are good.

Another example of the built-in danger of soundtracks, THE WILD THORNBERRYS boasts the best Paul Simon song since GRACELAND, an angelic closing tune, and a lot of worthless atmospheric boredom in between."Father and Daughter" is a great tune, a great guitar part and one of the best Paul Simon vocals in years, but the song is completely swamped by all of the dull, unimaginitive aural wallpaper that follows; most of it seemed outdated and boring the first time I listened to this CD. Does the world really need yet another recording of P. Diddy (or whatever he's calling himself this week) saying "C'mon, OK, Let's Go, C'mon, OK, OK, C'mon, OK, C'mon, OK" for almost 5 minutes? Enough is enough already, relegate this no-talent to K-Tel "Remembering Rap" albums and let's move on. Even the once-great Peter Gabriel falls for the soundtrack-trap, donating two pedestrian tunes, including one with Shaggy (another classic no-talent). The Pretenders walk their way through "Get Out Of London", rendering it totally null and void. The only vaguely bright spots on this CD are Sita's "Happy", Reel Big Fish's cover of Toots & The Maytel's "Monkey Man" (though it was already covered to perfection on THE SPECIALS classic first LP), and a little piece of perfection which closes the record, "Awa Awa," by Wes. It's a shame the first and last tunes on this CD are wrapped around a whole lot of nothing. There is a lot of blah'n'boring stuff here, including the now obligatory soundtrack-snores from Baha Men and Sting, that should have been kept on a shelf somewhere.

One of the Better "Kid Movie" Soundtracks.,
By
This review is from: The Wild Thornberrys Movie (Audio CD)
As the animated series that the movie grew out of is better than many animated children's shows, so is THE WILD THORNBERRYS MOVIE Soundtrack better than most soundtracks from "kid movies". I really enjoyed the movie and I enjoy the soundtrack almost as much. I've played several of the songs from the album on the webradio show I run and have gotten positive reviews. Paul Simon's 2002 Oscar-nominated song (which should have won), "Father and Daughter", is the opening number on the album. "Father and Daughter" is a wonderful ballad that could bring a tear to the eyes of every Dad who has a daughter. Some other good songs on the album include "Iwoya" sung by Angelique Kidjo and Dave Matthews, "Happy" sung by Sita, "Monkey Man" sung by Reel Big Fish, "Accident" sung by Baha Men, and "Awa Awa" sung by Wes. The songs sung by P. Diddy, Nick Carter, and The Pretenders are, well, lame. They were probably included just for their "star" appeal. However, my favorite song out of the 14 tracks is "Animal Nation" sung by Peter Gabriel. That song is played in the movie when Liza goes back to Africa and is riding the train to meet her parents just before she sees the injured rhino. I don't know why, but that song really stuck out to me and seems to capture the mood of the movie and the album.

Very Good Soundtrack,

This review is from: The Wild Thornberrys Movie (Audio CD)
I have to wonder about the single star reviewer and whether they were listing to some other soundtrack. The movie was lovely and the soundtrack was equally enjoyable. I watched the movie with my daughter (now a junior in college) and listening to the soundtrack brings back many of the fellings from the film. My favorite track has to be "Dance With Us"; after all, it doesn't get much better than dancing Baboons and the Wedgie Dance at the same time. For the complete experience, you may want to look at "The Wild Thornberrys Movie: Original Motion Picture Score". The ASIN is B00008OM6P for those who are interested. It includes the actual movie opening theme, "Bridge To The Stars". Keep in mind it doesn't contain the contemporary music but rather, the film score. For my taste, it's a must have if only to round out the experience.
