5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous & informational video
We bought this video for our daughter who has recently taken a fascination with dolphins. My husband and I are both big fans of Robin Williams so we figured this would be GOOD documentary on dolphins. We were not disappointed. Although I must admit, my daughter was - she's only 2 yr. The humor was above her level and what was left was too much like a documentary...

3.0 out of 5 stars If your interest is very much Julia Roberts and a little bit Orangutans, this is for you.
If you are interested in learning about orangutans, there are a LOT better choices out there. The film is about Julia Roberts's month-long experience with orangutans, as seen by Julia Roberts, who left the comfortable surroundings normally enjoyed by Julia Roberts. Do we really need the montage of Julia leaving NYC, with multiple art-school close-ups/silhouettes? Or so...

Typical Robin Williams humor and the occasional evidence of true emotion for the dolphins comes through. Excellent choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully documented and narrated video., November 1, 1999
By A Customer
When I saw this documentary on TV in South Africa, I knew I had to have a copy of it. It took me ages to find a copy but it was well worth the wait. Robin Williams is down to earth, comical and genuinely interested in what he is doing. An absolute must for any dolphin lover and/or Robin Williams fan!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Holly takes us into the true hearts of the cheetahs, January 6, 1999
This video was so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes several times. Holly hunter's genuine enthusiasm and awe at her experience with the Cheetahs as well as her obvious respect of these animals was lovely and extremely touching. When at the end she plays a part in freeing the chettah, she breaks down, I felt as though I was there with her and could understand the breadth of emotion that she must have been feeling. This is a wildlife special that not only teaches but makes you feel as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Saturday Night Live combined with Delphinic Humor!, October 5, 1999
By A Customer
At the time I've written this, four other people have written their own reviews, and I can do no more but agree with them, and perhaps add a few things myself.

While watching, I was either in the process of beginning to laugh, laughing, or recovering from laughter...including during the parts where Robin attracted the attention of a tankfull of dolphins by more than rivaling the Micromachine Man with speedy jabbering, and where a poor dolphin attemted, though successfully, to imitate his actions. I'll stop there because I would not spoil the film for people by revealing all the suprises...somebody else will do that.

In other words, the only problem I have with this video is that it terminated too soon!

Anyhow, even if you do not care much for documentaries, this is still worth it. Only if one has a complete distaste for science AND humor, will I recommend that one not to watch.

Salutations,

Hypogryph

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious and educational at once, October 17, 1999

John Cleese expertly blends his trademark dry sarcasm with traditional documentary narration. I caught this as a rerun on my local PBS station in the middle of the night and found myself laughing out loud at his many unexpected comments. One scene where he calls the lemurs, "You bastards!" just slayed me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Used in the Classroom, October 29, 2000

I used this video in the classroom as a prelude to a writing assignment. Both the students and myself found it both entertaining and informative.

Even though Robin Williams was his usual funny self, you could tell he was truly "touched" by some of his experiences: especially when he met Stubby.

I highly recommend it as something the whole family would enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars fascinating and hilarious, June 17, 1999
By A Customer
The party responsible for convincing Julia Roberts to travel to Borneo to anchor a wildlife documentary should be commended. Rarely does a video offer such rich humor unintentionally. Roberts profound musings on the similarities between orangutans and humans ("They seem so...human-like") are priceless. The audacity of the celebrity phenomenon has never been more starkly apparent. Why spend time studying your subject matter to qualify yourself for such an expedition? If you are famous, you need no other training. This is obvious when Roberts naively strolls up to a 400-pound alpha male who promptly attempts to tear her limb from limb. The climax, edited for maximum humor, cuts from the attack (presented in SLOW-MOTION!) to Roberts, moments later - bruised, disheveled and obviously scared out of her mind. If there is a funnier wildlife documentary out there, I have not seen it. Bravo to PBS, the Ford Motor Company and anyone else even tangentially associated with this comic gem! Buy it and invite your friends over for a screening. You will heralded as a genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly enjoyable and fascinating, July 12, 1999
By A Customer
An excellent documentary! Robin Williams brings a special warmth and antic humor to this beautifully filmed show about one of nature's most interesting animals, the dolphin. If you love the sea and it's animals, this program should not be overlooked. Just observing Williams' wonderful relationship with the subject matter makes this video one to view over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars An informative and highly entertaining PBS documentary., January 10, 1999
By A Customer
Robin Williams hosts a documentary on dolphins. He travels to various parts of the world to film and interact with different species of dolphins. Ala Williams, he makes the viewer laugh with his comments and antics which include getting rammed by a male dolphin, giving commands to trained dolphins, and swimming in the open ocean with wild dolphins. The film is very enjoyable with excellent footage and is part of a PBS series called "In the Wild." Other films in the series are about wild animals and are narrated by various celebrities.
