5.0 out of 5 stars Turkey Compendium, March 28, 2009
This review is from: Wild Turkey, The: Biology & Management (Hardcover)
This book is a treasure store of information regarding the wild turkeys of North America. Wild turkey experts from US and state game departments, universities, and private game and conservation organizations across the country have contributed articles covering numerous aspects of turkey natural history and biology, including behavior, nutrition, physiology, and predators. The book also includes a section on turkey habitat and management, with separate chapters for various ecological regions and forest types, from Florida to northern hardwoods to New Mexico. Basic hunting practices and turkey photography are also covered briefly. The book is illustrated throughout with black and white photographs. There is also a section of color plates. End matter includes lists of scientific names of plants and animals mentioned in the articles, an extensive list of references cited, biographical sketches of the authors of the articles, and an index.

This is fascinating compendium of information regarding the wild turkey. Though written by recognized experts, the text is still quite accessible for general readers. Hunters and game managers will find this book a great start for answering their questions about the hows and whys of the wily wild turkey. Domestic turkey raisers will also find much useful information about turkey biology, disease, and behavior in this book.

This review is from: Wild Turkey, The: Biology & Management (Hardcover)
I purchased this book in anticipation of answering some self generated questions about wild turkeys. Not only were ALL of my questions answered, but it provided information beyond my needs. I would highly recommend it to any biologist or hunter.
