Grade 2-4-Although the title refers only to wild turkeys, Patent draws comparisons between domesticated turkeys and their wild cousins. Material is organized into short chapters that discuss physical characteristics, behavior, life cycle, and environment. Generous use of good-quality, full-color photographs also aid in readers' understanding of the vast differences between the animals' lives in the wild and on poultry farms. The writing style is clear and informative although sentences are short and choppy at times. Suggestions for related activities are included. Patent's Wild Turkey, Tame Turkey (Clarion, 1989) is for a slightly older audience. Much of the same material is covered but in a little more depth. This new title will be a useful addition for this subject area.
