5.0 out of 5 stars Originators Of Goth Cool (And Indifference)
Cool yer jets, hardcore kids, this ain't some long-lost slab o' plastic from the politically minded US legends; this is a reissue of the only full-length album of original material ever recorded by the long-lost English band who helped pioneer the Goth movement. Different Wasted Youth, but just as important in the grand scheme of the world of music. This Wasted Youth...

5.0 out of 5 stars Originators Of Goth Cool (And Indifference), January 2, 2011
This review is from: Wild & Wandering (Reis) (Audio CD)
Cool yer jets, hardcore kids, this ain't some long-lost slab o' plastic from the politically minded US legends; this is a reissue of the only full-length album of original material ever recorded by the long-lost English band who helped pioneer the Goth movement. Different Wasted Youth, but just as important in the grand scheme of the world of music. This Wasted Youth ascended from the streets of East London in the late 70s; dazzled the UK on tours with The Only Ones, Siouxie & The Banshees, and U2; gained a huge fanbase amongst musicians, journalists, and radio DJs; then essentially disappeared. Mostly slow, moody songs filled with white noise and keyboard swaths layered over dense guitars, steady beats, and brooding vocals, the band forged a template that has been successfully mined by a stream of more image-conscious bands over the thirty-odd years since `Wild And Wandering' first hit the shelves. Five tracks from the band's long out-of-print `Live' album showcase their skills as performers, while Cherry Red's meticulous standard for liner notes raises the bar another notch with a full discography, rare photos, two complete essays on the band's history, and a full reproduction of the original album art. Goth fanatics take note: guitarist/white noise terrorist Rocco went on to form and lead the more successful Flesh For Lulu after Wasted Youth's demise. Definitely worth checking out.
