This review is from: Wild and Woolly (DVD)
Noted for his on-screen athleticism and acrobatics, Douglas Fairbanks' early career included a brief stint with D. W. Griffith. From 1915 to '20, Fairbanks was in quite a number of Westerns, a trend that ended with "The Mark of Zorro," the success of which sent him in a new direction. From 1921 on, Doug appeared in swashbucklers like "The Three Musketeers," "Robin Hood," "The Thief of Baghdad," "The Black Pirate" and "The Iron Mask." Fairbanks retired from movies after 1934's "The Private Life of Don Juan."

In WILD AND WOOLLY, a wealthy, young and adventurous New Yorker (Jeff) hopes to experience the Wild West by relocating to Bitter Creek, Arizona. He's unaware however that the town's been civilized for some time now. The townsmen arrange a secret charade for their new rich neighbor's benefit: they pack pistols (loaded with blanks) and act as if it were 1877 instead of 1917. The local Indians catch wind of this game and attack Bitter Creek, using live ammo. To save the day, Jeff must brave gunfire and get from the saloon to his stash of weapons so that he can arm his friends.

TELEVISTA's edition of WILD AND WOOLLY was mastered from a Blackhawk Films 16mm reduction print. Due care has been given to correct intertitles that were off-center in the source print. A few scenes appear somwhat grayed out. The DVD also includes some photo slides.

SPANGLES (also from TELEVISTA) is a horse opera of a different sort. This one's the story of a lady bareback circus rider.
