This new Geoff Keezer album is fantastic. It's general genre is straight-ahead jazz, but with the rhythmic and harmonic freshness and virtuosity that characterizes the great new players like Geoff Keezer, Brad Mehldau, Bill Stewart, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner, Jorge Rossy, etc. What is specially good about it, though, is the way it captures the "live" experience. Sometimes you go to a club and hear a set that is too good to believe, and you're gripping your seat with a feeling of great urgency, feeling totally seized by the music. That's what it's like to listen to this album. I'm on the edge of my seat from the first note to the last, so much so that I need to stop it sometimes to take a break. It's the best album I've heard in awhile. You can't lose with this album.
