4.0 out of 5 stars Great Wild Harvest for Profit Book, December 17, 2010

This review is from: Wildcrafting: Harvesting the wilds for a living : brush-picking, fruit-tramping, worm-grunting, and other nomadic livelihoods (Paperback)
I really loved reading this book. It is a little dated, being published in the mid 70s, but there are many great gems to be gathered from this book on Wild Harvest For Profit.

The author and his wife make a seasonal living by following the wild harvest throughout the North American Continent. As the back cover says:

...you can prune foliage for florists, gather crude drugs for pharmaceutical firms, seed cones for reforestation programs, and many wild edibles - nuts, berries, mushrooms - for regional buyers.

The real buried "gem" in this book on Wild Harvesting and Foraging is that there are numerous ways and commodities that are available throughout the country to harvest and profit from and not from the often perceived holy pair...Mushrooms and Ginseng!

WILDCRAFTING Harvesting From the Wilds For A Living Covers: moss collecting, pollen collecting, harvesting Holly, Evergreens, Pine Needles, Florists Greens, Wild Mushrooms, Fruit picking, grunting up worms for the bait market...and numerous other activities that may, or may not, be viable for today,s market. The point that this book makes is that there are "other" ways to profit from ethical harvesting from Nature.

The history in this book is an enjoyable read, and in fact the entire book is written in an easy, personable style...such that you feel that you are having a conversation with the author over a good cup of coffee.

I give this book 4 Stars out of 5 only due to it's outdated information on some commodities that may mislead the Wild Harvester in collecting something for a market that no longer exists.

This book will not break the bank, and I recommend getting a copy if your serious about expanding your harvesting activities for increased income.
