Book Description

Lyn Taylor loves her job as an Idaho wilderness hunting guide, but her world is complicated. It is a man's job in a man's world where she must constantly prove she is very capable and qualified to guide men on their hunts. On top of her father barely engaging in life since the death of Lyn's mother, Lyn has second thoughts about marrying and having a man in her life.

But that was before she met Nic Randall, a lumber man, who comes from Montana to find timber to be bid on and milled. He is convinced she can't handle the job as their guide because she is a woman and she is, of course, insulted. Nevertheless, neither has much choice and are forced to spend day and night together for the seven day hunt. Lyn is not happy -- just how much is a confident, independent woman suppose to put up with?

About the Author

Jacqueline currently lives in Sitka, Alaska...a tiny fishing town with a drinking problem is the standard joke. She moved back to Sitka following a job, but had lived there when she was just a baby and where her sister was born. Jacque was born in Oklahoma and has lived in Colorado, California, Washington, Idaho, Connecticut, Florida, Hawaii and Iceland. Some of these places she has lived because she was stationed there while serving in the US Navy for 7 years from 1980-1988. She loves to travel, meet new people and hopes that her writing reflects her love of details and the places she has been. She is an avid reader and loves photography. As always, Jacque hopes you have enjoyed reading her books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read! May 26, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Some love affairs go through periods of misunderstanding and strife, and some flow with amazing ease. The main characters in Jacqueline Hopkins' debut novel, "Wilderness Heart", trek through the frozen mountains of Idaho County, finding heartbreak, passion and hope along their way. Lyn Taylor is a ferociously independent hunting guide, an oddity in a world of men, elk and guns. She's loyal and steadfast, which probably keeps her engaged to a man she clearly doesn't love. Lyn is a noble character, quietly mouring her mother's death a few years earlier, and making sure she keeps her father's business afloat while he, too, deals with his loss.

Jacqueline Hopkins knows the world where she's placed her characters. Her descriptions of the smells of coffee, forests and horses in the cold dawns of Nez Perce National Forest are crisp and believable; I was transported to a world I knew little about until I read this book. Lyn's love for her mountains and animals, the expert ease with which she traipses through the crevices of the National Forest feel real. I clearly shared her shock when she was faced with her most challenging customer ever: a handsome stranger named Nic Randall.

Ms. Hopkins has written a story that initially reads like a romance, but has a mystery/thriller brewing underneath the passionate exchanges between the main characters. No one is quite whom they seem to be, and no feelings are thoroughly disclosed until the very end. Readers are compelled to turn the pages to unveil who Nic really is, what his motives are, and how much of a rival he might be to Brad, Lyn's elusive fiance. "Wilderness Heart" pits the main characters against danger and deception, but unerneath the plot is a wonderfully beating heart.

Kudos to Ms. Hopkins for creating appealing, interesting characters and offering us the beautiful backdrop of the mountains and forests she describes so elegantly.

3.0 out of 5 stars A lively tale April 13, 2011
By L. Sand
Format:Kindle Edition
Jacqueline Hopkins' first romance is a lively tale about the world of wilderness outfitters. Lyn Taylor is an Idaho outfitter who struggles with being a woman in a man's world where many men don't want a woman on their hunting trip, let alone having one guide them. Lyn also has problems with the men in her private life, even her father, wanting to change her into someone more ladylike (they don't like her swearing and smoking). Can she find true love with a man who will accept her for who she is, or will she have to change? If you enjoy strong, independent women in rugged settings, you'll enjoy Wilderness Heart.

More About the Author

I was born in Durant, OK, so I am a displaced Okie with a bit of Choctaw blood living in Idaho. Since my father was a bit of a nomad, we have moved around a lot and I got the travelling bug early on.

If I were stranded on a beautiful, always sunny, beach-filled island where the temperature was always around 70 degrees (anyone know of a place like that?), I would have to have books to read by my favorite authors Kathleen E. Woodiwiss and June Lund Shiplett so I can read them over again; Stephen King; Patricia Cornwell; Tess Gerritsen; Brooklyn Hudson; Tami Hoag; Lisa Jackson; James Patterson; Sydney Sheldon; Janet Evanovich; and access to wifi for my kindle so I can keep finding great indie authors to read as well.

I first starting writing when I wrote songs for myself--ones I sang for myself--in my grade school years. In high school, I wrote a play to a popular song we used to sing on the school playground in grade school. Then I started writing stories after high school and while I was in the Navy. I have so many stories in my head waiting to be written, I have a hard time staying focused on one and afraid time will run out before I can finish them all. My first book, Wilderness Heart, I published in March 2011, and in December 2011 it was a recommended read on USA Today's Happy Ever Blog.

Employment: waitress, cocktail waitress, bartender in Idaho;
a Yeoman/Secretary in the US Navy 1981-1988 in Iceland, CT, CA and Idaho;
a shuttle driver for Nissan Corp in Hawaii;
Assistant Manager for a fabric store, office manager and personal assistant at various real estate offices and a 2000 Census worker in Idaho;
a security screener for TSA and an officer manager for real estate appraisers in Alaska;
Now a stay-at-home caregiver for my 77 year old mother back in Idaho.

I don't like watching sports except football at Superbowl time and Nascar; I have lots of different hobbies; not sure I have an all time favorite movie, but if I had to pick just one it would probably be The Abyss and any movie with Sam Elliott in it; my favorite foods would have to be anything with seafood; I like coffee flavored drinks because I don't like the taste of coffee by itself; and I don't like the taste of alcohol but do drink occasionally; and I know if I lived in Vegas I'd have a serious gambling problem. I hate to have my picture taken, especially today as I get older and gravity doesn't agree with my body--besides I have a broken neck held together so have to be careful I don't fall and paralyze myself. Someday I may tell you the neck story and someday you may see a current picture of me (if you look hard enough on the internet, you can find one or two).

I love to hear from people and fans of my writing, which some day there will be more of. You can connect with me here: iam14choctaw@hotmail.com or on my blog at http://jacquehopkins.blogspot.com or follow me on twitter @jacquehopkins
