This is not a textbook; plenty of those are available. However, if you already know something about emergency medicine or EMS - you're a doctor, nurse, CRNP, PA, or R.N. with emergency experience, or an EMT or a paramedic - this is the definitive guide to how to modify your practice when in the wilderness/disaster/tactical setting. For that use, it is highly recommended.

Purchased this book to compare various Wilderness First Aid protocols. The book was thorough and covered a majority of the areas I wanted to research. Overall, a good source of information for anyone looking to write their own program.

I do NOT recommend this book to the layperson, if you are heading out for a multi-day hiking trip this is NOT the book to get.
The book is filled with unexplained medical jargon which completely obscures the meaning unless you know what the terms mean. Chapter two (heart) is particularly jargon-dense and near unusable, typical sentences: "PVCs or PACs usually are sign of ischemia or infarction and occur early in course of ACS." "Syncope with sudden bradycardia: Sign of heart block and inferior and right ventricular infarction. There are chapters that are somewhat comprehensible - obviously written by somebody other than chapter twos author but still I do not recommend this book unless you are a medical professional.

This is pretty basic info. My guess is that if you are interested enough to buy the book, you already know what it says.
